Q: New iMac 27inch screen flickering/tearing/shutoff

I have been experiencing some problems with the all new iMac 27inch display.
At non-fixed intervals i will get one of the following:

Screen distortion/flicker somewhere random in the screen (feels like it is more in the lower part) that looks like a horizontal bar of about 2-3inches just popping in and out of the screen.

Screen will go completely black for a second and then come back on. Sometimes 2-3 times in a row.

Somebody else already made some video-clips about these problems, I am experiencing exactly the same behaviour.

Just to not that in the course of writing this post my screen has flickered 13 times and has gone black 2 times.

I also received an email that my replacement i7 was shipped this morning and would arrive on the 10th of Feb. Shipped from the facility in Shanghi FWIW. Does it matter at this point where it was manufactured? I must say that despite the rare flicker, slightly yellow hue, and 4 dead pixels, AppleCare and the senior advisor that walked me through the replacement process were outstanding. No complaints whatsoever. Now just hoping for a perfect machine. I'll post when it arrives.

    Matthew,
What Country & State do you live in? Reason I'm asking is, someone from Virginia just got theirs shipped suddenly this morning. And I live in Florida, so if I could get mine sooner, it would be better (as long as there are no defects of course). Let me know. Thanks in advance!

I applied the update when it came out. So far, no flicker. I need more time to be sure the fix worked, since it didn't happen every day for me, but so far it looks promising.

Not in my experience. Had several defective 27" iMacs so far--a few made in Shanghai, a few in the US.

    Hey Spurv2,

Appreciate you sharing that story about Apple Care WANTING to send you a third iMAC to make sure the problem is solved. I appreciate you sharing because I am going to purchase one as soon as they can resolve the yellow tint issue. Not sure you are surprised in a good way or frustrated way.

I have had problems with my keyboard and speakers when I bought my older iMAC. It floored me to reach customer service directly in a few rings of the phone, the guy spoke perfect English, was in a service center IN AMERICA, anticipated the problems I was having before I finished describing them, immediately said he would send a MAC PRO keyboard to replace the standard white model, would send a new set of HK speakers, and when I asked how to ship the defective ones back he said just keep them. My first thought was, "Am I in Customer Service Heaven?"

Keep in mind this was when companies like Dell and HP had quietly shipped all their customer service to INDIA and stripped their service policies bare.

For this kind of service I would have gladly paid more for the iMAC then and I paid $2400.00. After years of dealing with nightmares of other companies careless approach to customer service I will stay loyal to MAC as long as they care this much about the customer. It is the least discussed attribute as to why "MacHeads" are so loyal but my first reason...peace of mind and a product that just works. And if it doesn't they will fix the problem!! What other company works like this?

    dawaga

Customer support in a western country??? That speaks clear concise English??? Yes, I too will pay extra for better customer support based on past and current experiences. Most companies still believe that cost is the bottom line - I don't think it is anymore.

Wow...dawaga and nzac10...you just cancelled out any validity to what you have shared in this forum by displaying your ignorance. While as a citizen of the U.S.A., I appreciate our nation and all that it stands for, with the exception of when it stands for the ignorance of individuals like you.
