Although there could still be software issues, I would run Apple Hardware Test.

Some discs require you to use the Option key at bootup to select AHT. Some models have a separate AHT CD.

Hi everybody,

Thank you all for your help. I did the hardware test 5 time's (just to make sure) and the results were positive. No hardware fault. After these test i thought like "i will give it another try" and miraculously, after 5 days, everything works like a charm.

I don't know what the problem was, but i will remember the admin account tip for in case it happens again (hopefully not)

Thank you
John

I have been having this problem as well. When I start up my mac it just sits there with a blue screen. The last time it happened I walked away and came back three or four minutes later and it had finished starting up properly. Before this I had sat there starting and shutting down repetitively because in he past it woudl start up normally the third or fourth time of doing that.

I'm afraid the problem is just going to get worse. Why is it doing this. And why does Apple have such ****** support?

Perhaps you would elucidate (or not) the basis of that last comment? What have you actually tried? I would suggest posting your question in a new topic since this one is for answering the other poster's problems and it gets confusing if we have to keep addressing things to two different people. Although the symptoms may appear similar it is unlikely the problems are truly identical, and if they are you can get your solution just by reading answers to the other poster's questions. Let us know what you have tried.

Hi everybody

The problem is back. I was able to use the computer for about 2 days and yesterday it suddenly reappeared.

I was using facebook, and suddenly the horizontal lines next to my mouse were back.
Now the problem is completely back. I tried to reinstall the system but even that failes.

The hardware test was without a problem, but it took 15 minutes to test. It was extremely slow with the memory test. (much slower as before)

Any ideas?
Thanks
John

Two broad categories. It's either hardware or software. AHT saying all is all right doesn't mean it is so - it just means AHT may have missed what was the problem, especially if it is intermittent. If this is also happening when you boot from your installer disc that means it is almost certainly hardware since you are basically using a totally clean and different set of software when booted from the disc.

I would recommend at this stage that you post this problem on the MacBook Pro forum since they are the ones running similar hardware. It could be a familiar problem to one of them.
