USB Flash Drive won't show up in Disk Utility but will show up in Profiler

Good day,

I seem to be having a problem for the last month where my 8GB OCZ Crossover USB Flash Drive won't show up on my MacBook at all. Now initially it did however I was trying to install Windows 7 on the flash drive. I was following a guide which said to go into Terminal and unmount the drive. I did this and since then I can't see the drive in Terminal or DiskUtility to mount it back.

I did do some checking and when plugged in it shows up in System Profiler as "Composite Device" with this info:

Composite Device:

Product ID: 0x0163
Vendor ID: 0x1307
Version: 1.00
Speed: Up to 480 Mb/sec
Location ID: 0x24100000
Current Available (mA): 500
Current Required (mA): 98

I don't know if that will help but I have been labouring with this forever.
I've tried using it in several PC's and it shows up in their PC but it always tells me to "Insert volume into drive F:".

Any suggestions as to what I can do to rectify this problem. The OCZ Flash Drive also has a MicroSDHC slot if that helps in troubleshooting.

Sorry if I missed it - what happens if you format that drive (DOS) using Disk Utility via Snow Leopard?

Hey K T,

Thanks for the reply. The drive doesn't show up in Disk Utility via Snow Leopard. I see all the other mounted drives(Macintosh HD, Bootcamp and Matshita DVD...) but no USB drive =/

that's not a good sign and usually means a dead drive. try booting from SL dvd and using disk utility there. does the drive show up? also, do you have access to a different computer? try it there.

I've had this issue when there were several (too many) USB devices connected at one time.

See if you can reduce the number of USB devices in use and restart, then try again.

Well that's not good news if it's dead 😟
I'll try what you suggested about booting from SL DVD. Does it make any difference that it says "Composite Device" in Profiler under USB when the drive is in and says nothing when I take it out?
