windows 7 upgrade

hi

im not that good with computers so im sorry if this is a stupid question or has been asked before.

I am currently running windows XP on my mac book - already installed on a partition using boot camp.

Can i go out and buy a windows 7 upgrade disc and upgrade without any problems?

If it will work but there will be some problems too, not being that great with computers will I be able to solve them?

thanks

Backup any files first, you will have to do a custom (clean) install.

May need a larger partition, which has to be NTFS instead of FAT32.

You might want to remove the Windows partition and create a new one.

Backing up your Mac OS volume is a good idea.

Windows 7 upgrade, or Newegg sells System Builder for even less and can do clean install on same system and probably easier to deal with.

i did just that yesterday upgraded from vista to windows 7

no I can't tether my iphone to the internet as windows 7 is not recognizing it..

in vista all i needed to do was go to network and the diagnose and the phone connected through the usb was instantly recognized.

also just bought nero 9 and it does not install completely on the windows 7 system..

it does some error when installing and does a roll back of some of the install features....

tv commercials from windows says they listened to us and changed my ***....

it gets more flaky and to do any real control of the computer is gone....

still uses the old way of filling you never really get a good handle on what has changed on your computer while using it and virus and such go unditected...

Its like owning a book and someone changes a paragraph and you are not allowed to open the cover....to investigate.

There are some problems when buying an upgrade Window7 and install it over a full version of Windows XP:
- Microsoft site says you can use an upgrade WIndows7 for Windows XP
- you cannot just upgrade from XP to Windows7 (upgrade productkey does not work)
- when you do a clean install Windows7 does not accept your upgrade CD as it expects a full version.
- if you call Microsoft support, they will not help you and want to charge EUR290,- minimum
Weird way of approaching customers, but anyway....

What's the solution (as it worked out for me) to upgrade from a full XP SP3 to Windows7 on VMWare 3.0.1 ?:
- Start VMWare 3.0.1.
- Create new VM machine: File New (VM Machine)
- Install Windows7 WITHOUT productkey
- Follow install instructions of Windows 7
- Do a Windows Update and install the latest updates
Windows 7 is installed now but not activated
Activation procedure:
- In Windows7: Start Menu Search: regedit.exe
- Navigate to: HKEY LOCALMACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Setup/OOBE/
- Change “MediaBootInstall” from “1” to “0”
- OK
- Start Menu Search: cmd
- Open with right click the option “run as administrator”
- Type in: “slmgr /rearm”
- Wait until message appears: “command completed succesfully”
- Close cmd windows
- Restart Windows 7
- Start Menu search: activation
- Do online windows activation with Windows 7 upgrade productkey
- You should get a message saying Windows 7 is activated
- Update VM Tools
- Install your other software under Windows 7 (optional)
- Delete your XP VM Machine (optional)

This worked for me.
