Can i use Airplane safe mode with British Airways???

Ive searched on the internet and here and seen that although some people have used the Safe mode on planes when above 10'000 feet that they have had problems and been told to completely turn it off!

Now some airlines seen to be ok and some not so (mainly budget airlines)!

I did read that Virgin and BA are ok with the safe mode, but upon checking on the BA website i cant find anything that confirms this from them.

Can anyone confirm this at'all before i fly on sunday?

Thanks

Any airline that allows laptops, and other electronics to be turned on after reaching 10,000 feet will allow phones IF they are in Airplane mode. You have to put it in airplane mode before turning it off or when you turn it on, its radio chip is broadcasting.

Laptops now have cellular data cards built in, so the consumer needs to know what they are doing.

I travel internationally and have never been told to turn my iPhone - in airplane mode off when I use it above 10,000 feet. If the attendant says anything you explain that "the phone part is off".

None of the airlines detail every device that is allowed - but they will tell you what is not allowed. If you don't find it prohibited you are usually OK.

.. airplane mode only shuts off the cell phone transmitter. Of course, if you are using your iPhone in airplane mode as an iPod during take-off or landing then that is a problem since no electronic devices are to be used during that period. Usually that period is about 20 minutes before landing and 10 minutes after take-off. If you use it during that period of course you'll have problems.

I have never head any airplane stating that iPhones can never be used during any portion of the flight.

Just use airplane mode, and avoid using your iPhone as an iPod during take-off and landing and you'll be fine.

You don't fly much do you? 😉

According to Apple, Airplane Mode turns off all radios on all models. From the manual ( http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/iPhone_UserGuide.pdf)...

+If you turn on airplane mode, you won’t be able to make calls, send or receive text messages, access the Internet, or use Bluetooth devices with iPhone until you disconnect iPhone from the accessory or turn off airplane mode.+

+When airplane mode is on, (airplane icon) appears in the status bar at the top of the screen. No phone, radio, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth signals are emitted from iPhone and GPS reception is turned off, disabling many of iPhone’s features.+

Airplane Mode definitely turns off All radios on my 3G, including BT.
