System doesnt recognize me as Administrator

What's easiest way to reset? I havent forgotten my password but recently upgraded software (Mozilla, Safari, Adobe acrobat reader, and iphone stuff). Since then my connection to printer was interrupted and still havent resolved (Epson stylus photo R1800) and when I go to install a new printer driver hoping that will resolve issue, it says I'm not the "administrator".. Went to system preferences to try and change but says old password I'm putting in, isnt accurate (only one I've ever used). Any suggestions on re-setting my password and getting my printer up and running again would be greatly appreciated?

Hi lealelan, and a warm welcome to the forums! 🙂

On the Printer issue, are you using Mozy for Backup perchance?

On the Password it sounds if we have some corruption, tough to tell how best to cure that, but try this first...

Reset Password Utility...

1. Insert the Tiger Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Reset Password from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Reset Password.

If that doesn't help then...

Reset OS X Password Without an OS X CD...

It'll boot like a newly setup Mac, but all your stuff should still be there once filling out the stuff.

Hi there
and thank you for that great info. I havent tried yet but will follow your instructions. I appreciate. Something is def messed up with my system. Various things are not working. When I updated itunes recently (for iphone and to access the store), lost my iphoto library, but it was all backed up, so imported stuff back. Now it's gone again and not recognizing photos on camera - sigh,.,.,. frustrated.

To answer to your ? yes I have mozy altho (embarrassingly so) have never used it for back up (dont think) as it was taking so long,. However have had for awhile now and it wasnt til recently that the printer prob occurred. Perhaps a glitch tho with some software I updated and the Mozy software??

Thx again!! Will report back. Do have the OS X Tiger install disc and hopefully can do without messing up my settings (know just ehnough to be dangerous! :))

Yes, Mozy is likely suspect...

Before you do anything else though, try this...

"Try Disk Utility

1. Insert the Mac OS X Tiger Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.

(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
