Scanning issue using Canon Imageclass MF4350d

I am trying to scan using the Canon MF4350d. I am using the Canon MF Tool software and it works great, almost. When putting a multi-page document in the sheet feeder, it makes every page a separate PDF, instead of putting them all in one PDF. Canon tells me it works fine in their call center, but that doesn't help me.

Can anyone help me figure out how to scan a 10 page document into a single PDF? Image capture doesn't work well at all.

MacPro, Mac OS X (10.6.1)

Is the "create single document" setting you describe in the MF Tool Box software? I do not have a format selection in my version of the mf tool box which is 1.2? is there another version that is compatible with the mac?

The 'Create single document' checkbox is located in the ScanGear window used by Preview / Image Capture. If you open Preview, click on File > Image Capture > MFxxxx, the scanning window that appears will most likely not show all the options. If you press the Show Details button, you will then see an extra pane with a number of additional settings. When you select Document Feeder for the Scan Mode PDF and the file format to PDF you will then see the 'Create Single PDF' checkbox.

I was able to scan multiple pages into one document using Preview as well. I'm using the MF4350d on a MacBook Pro running Mac OS X 6.3 Snow Leopard. It worked under these conditions:

MF Toolbox 1.20 running but with no dialog boxes open
Printer powered on, plugged in and set to Scan Mode

I simply went to Preview, File -> Import from Scanner -> Canon MF 4320-4350. Then I hit the Show Details button, and set the options to:
Scan Mode: Document Feeder
Format: PDF
Create Single Document (checked)

Presto! Thanks for the help, Mac Forum!

I'm with you. This line of Imageclass is an amazing device and a tremendous value. There really isn't anything comparable in its price range so to have to fight these details is frustrating.

When I bought my Mac I received the MX310 all in one (inkject) for $30 as a promotion. That works perfectly. So I don't know why they couldn't just bring that scanner technology over to the MF4000 series.

I know the Canon software doesn't support multi-page, but I don't understand why Image Capture works so poorly (i.e., doesn't work) with the document feeder.

Oh, well. I am so thankful to have found the Yep software. It really saved the day. It has an odd interface, but it is actually a pretty neat piece of software. It took me a bit to figure it out, but once I did, it is great. Once in a while I have to power my device off and on to get Yep to recognize the scanner. If you have any challenges figuring out how to make Yep do what you want it to do, feel free to email me at mike@allie.org.

Thanks for the response. I didn't know you could scan into Preview.

I tried it and it appears to bring up the same screens I used for Image Capture. When I do that, the scan doesn't come out. The first page comes out blank and the second page only scans a few words in a very large font (while the original is a newspaper article that fills the page).

Is there anything special you did during installation (I downloaded and installed the drivers from the Canon site).

I've spent a lot of time on this today: uninstalling, re-installing, etc. Talked with Apple and we wondered if Image Capture was corrupted so they directed me to reinstall Snow Leopard. To no avail.

To your question: how does Image Capture work on the flatbed? It works great. But the scan is almost blank if I use the sheet feeder.

Thanks for your response.

For what it's worth, the Canon call center informed me this morning that multi-page scanning is not supported by the MF Scan software. They were unaware that you could even scan with Preview. They also said that they only recently brought their laser MFPs to the mac and that full support was only being implemented slowly. Very frustrating. I love the printer, but the failure to offer multi-page scanning out-of-the box for mac is ridiculous (and, I might add, undisclosed in their literature).

What's more infuriating is that other users (e.g. PAHU) seem to have had success. Oh well. I'll try the package you mentioned.

Thanks again for the help.

I too am having a problem with the MF4350D as it relates to be MF toolbox. I called Canon was on the line for a while and to no avail was not able to receive the software support. We did a few testing with image capture and preview however as you guys stated earlier need the program allows you to visibly see multi-sheet scanning. I did note that preview did the single sheet scanning but all the pages were blank. so with that say it, I am just in awe like everyone else especially since I like this 4-1 printer. has anyone found any software substitutes?
