Magic Mouse software update

I am a new Mac User, having collected my new 27" iMac on Monday - Thrilled to have finally made the change so far. Although I have the feeling I may be getting the 'famous' Safari problems, as it feels slower than it should be.

My question is that I have this morning seen the Magic Mouse software upgrade and came here to see what people are commenting, but have seen no messages about it.

Should I install it considering that I have a new machine? Or is it just for previous iMacs?

Does seem a massive file size for a mouse driver.

Thanks

iMac 27", Mac OS X (10.6.1), iPhone 3G

HI Adam and congrats on your new iMac.

The Magic Mouse update here is for a wireless Magic Mouse dated Oct. 27. A 63MB file for an update is normal. http://support.apple.com/downloads/#mice

If your mouse is wireless then yes, definitely install the update. It's very important to keep all system software up to date. An easy way to do this is to go to System Preferences (Applications folder), there should be a System Preferences icon in your Dock also)

User uploaded file

After you open the System Preferences window select Software Update / Scheduled Check
At the bottom of that window where you see: Check for updates, make sure that box is checked. Click the pop up menu and select Daily / Weekly or Monthly. And you can also select:
Download updates automatically if you want.

For Safari... perform maintenance once a week.

From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...

from the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.

HI,

Few users will see your post at the bottom of someone else's thread. For your benefit, start your own topic.

You can provide feedback here.

This being a user to user forum, we have no way of knowing when updates will become available.

Thank you for the answer, and the congrats for my gorgeous iMac, even my family has forgiven me for the monster size screen.

Will now install the update. Thought I should, but was surprised not to see any threads here about it.

BTW I posted a topic in the Safari forum:

http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2212789&tstart=75

With no answer yet, I now think it isn't Safari related, because the same happens in Firefox which I downloaded to check, but I still see 'global.subject.label' and things like that instead of the normal public label of 'subject'.

Wondered if you had any idea, I see that you post very often and very well.

Thanks for your time

Hi Adam,

It can take awhile to get the hang of how forums work. You posted for help on for the same topic in two different forums. Intel-based iMac and Safari.

What happens when you do this is... if I'm helping you here in the iMac forum, I have to go back and forth between this post and your other one to see what kind of trouble shooting has been suggested by other posters there so we don't duplicate.

This is a user to user forum. We are volunteers just helping other Mac users.

Ok... for the software download. You do not need to go to the Software Updates page for updates. Let your iMac do that automatically for you. It will not download software that isn't needed for your system. Go to System Preferences / Software Updates - Scheduled Check
You can click: Check Now and check the box next to: Check for updates then click the pop up menu. I have mine set for Weekly.

You didn't do anything wrong... just trying to help you get acquainted with the forums! You are doing splendid.

Now... enjoy your iMac!

*"Just run a check from software update which returns no updates pending. I suppose this means that my iMac doesn't need the update."*

Correct!!

Here are some links to help you.

Yes, it is the new wireless Magic Mouse, and therefore has batteries, and is not connected via USB.

I downloaded it from the Apple Support Download page, at present it is second on the list, and dated 27 Oct. But once I had the file downloaded, I didn't proceed to installation process.

Trying to learn what is considered 'correct' on this forum:

Why did you say 'Please do not post twice for the same topic' ?

Not sure what I did wrong.

Thanks again.

Adam
