My Function Keys dont work in Bootcamp Windows

My MBP is running OS10.5 with vista Ultimate (need windows for work) in bootcamp. The other day while using Windows it did its usual Apple Software update and now NONE of my function keys (Brightness, Backighting, Volume, ect....) are working. I've been into the bootcamp settings and the "use Fn key to use sortcuts" tap is not checked. i can still adjust the volume by going into the settings bit. Also now i can not open the Apple software Update. It opens and brings up the "checking for new software" window then crashes.
any ideas????
