iPod Touch iHome 8 issues

My son recently bought himself a 2nd generation 16GB iPod Touch from Apple's refurb store. Everything is working great. However, sometimes when he docks it with his iHome 8 radio alarm clock docking station, and listens to a play list using the snooze function, the iPod flashes up the home screen and makes the connecting beep sound at intervals of every 20-30 seconds.

I have tried undocking and shutting down the iPod and redocking and all is okay for about 5 minutes and the connecting beep/flashing home screen starts again.

The iPod is running OS3.1.2.
