I have a new ipod touch, only 2 months old, and a few days ago this started happening to me. I will touch an app, it will open for a second and then return to my home screen. I've gone through all the troubleshooting tips on the apple support page, including restarting it and resetting the system. Help!!

HP, Windows Vista, iPod Touch 8GB

I'm having the same problem. This is my fourth iPod. I've had a classic, a nano, 1st generation iPod Touch and now a 3rd generation iPod Touch which is the most expensive one I've purchased (64 GB) and I'm thoroughly disgusted that right out of the box, I'm having this issue. Has anyone found anything that has fixed this problem?

Same problem here. What worked for me was to delete the nonworking apps (3 out of my 5 new apps did the click on for nanosecond, then back to home) from both ipod and itunes, then go to my account and re-download them. I think it's in purchase history, but when you find the app, click on it and it says you've already bt it, do you want to download it again, say yes, and the second time it worked for me. In my case I suspect that because I have a slow dialup connection, a glitch occurred during download and that made it not work. It's really sad that Apple support ***** so badly. You google a problem like this or go to Apple support and you find 100s of people with the same problem and no good solution.

I'm another one with the same problem i got my new ipod touch 8GB from mum and dad today (christmas) and loaded everything onto it and then opened the apps and it worked. After 10mins of playing with the apps i switched it off and later i turned it on and the apps wouldn't STAY open. I have tried everything from all the websites and tips other people have tried. but all i've ended up with is a ipod touch that i can't use apps on and a lot of wasted time on christmas day!!!!

I purchased two iPod Touch's for my kids for Christmas and both iPod's had the same problem. After some researching on the internet, i found a solution. Because of the number of apps they had on their touches, it was impossible to tell which app was causing it to lock.

1. First I hooked my iPod up to my laptop and when iTunes popped up, I went to File an then hit Transfer Purchases.. This copies and stores all of the items from your iPod onto iTunes on your computer. Then I unhooked my iPod.

2. Once that was complete, I went to Applications on the iTunes screen (left hand side)when all of my apps appeared, I went to the bottom of the screen and hit "Check for Updates" this updated a number of I guess, outdated apps.

3. Then I hooked my iPod back up to the computer and once it appeared on the screen, I went to the Summary tab and hit Restore.. This will wipe your iPod clean, but don't worry, you'll be able to reload it with all of the exact same files if you followed step (1.)

4. Once the restore was complete, it asked if I wanted to restore it with the previous back up or treat it as a new iPod. TREAT IT AS A NEW IPOD, YOU CAN GIVE IT THE SAME NAME BUT DO NOT RESTORE IT WITH THE BACK UP, IT CONTAINS THE SAME BUGS THAT CAUSED IT TO CRASH INITIALLY..

5. ONCE YOU RENAME IT AS A NEW IPOD, Sync it with the apps, music, etc, that you transferred earlier.

6. It will load all of your items back onto your iPod and you will be good to go....

I'm not sure why you have to do all of this and what apps causes it to lock, but I did this with both of my kids iPod Touch's and they are up and running and we haven't had a problem since.

AppleUser01's suggestion worked for me on this issue.

The key was this step:
