Ipod stuck In recovery mode.

Today I was updating my Ipod touch 1g to version 3.1.2. In between the update a popup tells me my ipod cannot be recognized and has to be recovered. I try recovering after 5 minutes, it gives me an error saying my Ipod can't be restored. I am seriously angry. I paid 10$ for the update and I makes my Ipod bricked. Also I cannot turn off the Ipod, I tried many instructions, suggestions. None work. And now when I plug in my touch it doesnt even recognize it. When I plug it the computer just goes on as in nothing happened. I cannot recover it, I cannot do anything with it. Did I pay 300$for an Ipod just to have it bricked for no reason. Help would be nice.
