Oct 31, 2009 1:56 PM in response to demetreargesby Randy Maynard1,I am having the same issue. When I play video's in QuickTime X they are choppy and the sound is way out of sync. When I play the same video's using QuickTime 7 (the last version) they play fine. I have tried many things... nothing has worked yet. -
Dec 30, 2009 8:04 PM in response to demetreargesby KStrat2258,I'm having the same problem. My videos once ran fine. I just installed Snow Leopard and now I'm having this problem (frame rate seems to have gone down) when I play HD videos.
p.s. - I also am viewing videos I recorded from my canon camera -
Jan 25, 2010 2:29 AM in response to Randy Maynard1by step5,Hi!
Thanks for the hint. I am trying to play video recorded with a Sony WX1 (HD 1280x720 pixel 30f/sec).
With Quicktime X it looks like the sound and the pictures are shifted against each other by a couple of seconds.
Thanks to your hint I tried now Quicktime 7 I found in the Utilities Directory and it works just fine.
I can also edit with iMovie and sound and images are synced. -
Mar 5, 2010 12:13 PM in response to demetreargesby neil1,I'm having the same problem - I have a Pentax K-7 camera with which I take HD (720p) video. My videos always play back very choppy when playing through quicktime 10 on my MacBook. Can you guys there in Apple please sort this issue out - Quicktime 10 is useless to me as is. -
May 19, 2010 11:05 AM in response to demetreargesby CrispOne,Just wanted to chime in and say "me too." Running QT10 on a MacBook Pro w/ 2GB RAM, and my HD videos won't play smoothly. Really annoying, since I got this computer specifically to work on video. Apple, you have a reputation for excelling at video and audio production. Please hold up to that reputation. -
May 25, 2010 7:44 AM in response to demetreargesby rich8374,Hi,
I'm also having this problem, 21" iMac with 3GB RAM and Snow Leopard, trying to view video shot on a Sony WX1 with QuickTime X. The audio seems to be lagging the video.
Displays fine with VLC. -
Jul 31, 2010 8:37 AM in response to demetreargesby chadguy97,I'm convinced that Quicktime X is junk. I have a MacPro 2 x 2.66 Dual Core with 8 Gig of Ram that used to play everything smoothly with no jitter or chopping under Leopard 10.5 and QT 7 Pro. Now that I have "upgraded" to Snow Leopard, my computer is close to worthless. I'm thinking about removing Snow Leopard next week.
In addition, I have a BRAND FREAKING NEW MacBook Pro 17" with the Quad Core i7 Chip at 2.66 GHz that also refuses to smoothly play HD videos files with Quicktime X.
Seriously, Apple? What's up with releasing software that is substandard when what you had worked great? Scrap QT X. -
Sep 9, 2010 10:08 PM in response to demetreargesby Shticky,Here's a suggestion. I tried Quicktime 7, it was better, but still choppy. I downloaded a program called VLC for free and played the same videos fine, smooth as silk. I don't have a powerful computer. Someone said it: Quicktime X is junk. Reminds me of the Windows Media Player circa 2005. Apple, you must redeem yourself! -
Nov 25, 2010 10:09 PM in response to demetreargesby Fatima74,I run Snow Leopard 10.6.5, both Quicktime 10.0 and QuicktimePro 7.6.6 and I own a MacBook Pro (2.53 GHz with 4G RAM). And I have the same problem with choppy and out of sync HD playback. I am finding thread after thread complaining about the same issue with no solutions. It's been over a year since SL came out and I don't see anything about Apple addressing the issue. This is absolutely unacceptable and I feel cheated by Apple for thinking that buying a mac will allow me to work on and play HD media. -
Dec 5, 2010 3:37 PM in response to demetreargesby genesis2seven,Plus 1 on this. I have 720p videos from both my D90 and my brand new Flip Ultra HD. I just got the Flip and went to look at the first few videos and they were all choppy. Thought I had a defective camera but then I check other videos I had and they had the same issue. I used to watch them fine in QuickTime. Not sure when the issue cropped up but this is ridiculous. Makes them totally unwatchable. They all work fine in VLC. I'm happy paying for Mac precisely for application packs like QuickTime, iLife and iWork but if I'm going to end up using open source apps anyway I'd just assume go back to Linux. This is really disappointing. -
Dec 17, 2010 11:11 AM in response to genesis2sevenby Delecti,Same here...just purchased a new Flip Video UltraHD at Costco. I'm running snow leopard and Quicktime 10.0. Choppy and unwatchable video, but low and behold, VLC saves the day with smooth playback. -
Dec 19, 2010 5:36 PM in response to demetreargesby roque32,Add one more to the ones complaining about HD video being choppy on Quicktime 10. I'm not too much in a bind because of the tip to play the video on Quicktime 7 in the utilities folder. -
Mar 17, 2011 10:55 PM in response to demetreargesby Levente Batizy,Yep, it's crap. Brand new Macbook Pro running Snow Lepturd and my older Macbook Pro running QT 9 is much better. Hooray for progress! -
Apr 20, 2011 5:43 AM in response to demetreargesby jtsternberg,Add another to the list. Brand new 17" MBP with 4 gb ram, and the i5 processor. What frustrates me is that Apple stuff is supposed to "just work." I'm seeing a lot less of that with their later iterations of software. I upload video from my iPhone to iPhoto, and try playing the video with either iPhoto or QT 10 & I get slow choppy video. Of course it works if i switch to VLC, but why would the built in OS not be able to handle playing HD video? It's rediculous.
