My magic mouse (with all updates properly installed and with USB Overdrive properly uninstalled) has a problem connecting and disconnecting from the computer. When I use the mouse for a few minutes, it will all of a sudden be non-responsive, and within a couple of seconds the "Connection Lost" message appears on the screen. If I wait another minute, and click the mouse button a few times, the mouse will reconnect. This happens periodically as I am using the computer.

In the console logs, I get these messages:

The first message is when the mouse disconnects, and the rest are when it reconnects.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

    If you've done due diligence on the latest software, I'd have to ask if you've made sure your immediate environment isn't radio wave saturated. Shut off as many wireless gadgets close by as you can and keep trying...

    You can also try resetting some of the hardware involved (PRAM~NVRAM). See this Apple KB for details, etc.:

    Can't hurt to try, and apparently this has helped others recently.

    If still no joy, walk the MB and the MM in to the nearest Apple Store and see about making it their problem

    My problem exactly. Very, very frustrating--since it took me more than an hour to install!

    Going to the Apple store is my next move, though given that the NYC apple stores are always booked, this might take a while.

    I don't like in a radio saturated environment (or rather, not one that has an excessive amount of 2.4Ghz noise. Other bluetooth devices in my apartment function just fine.

    same issue here. I use a bluetooth headset and mouse with a my PC and it is pretty reliable. Also was using a logitech wireless mouse with a dongle and it worked great. Been trying to use the magic mouse but it disconnects very frequently. I'll chill and wait for a software update.

    Same problem here on the other side of the pond for what it's worth.

    Also chilling and waiting for SW update. May put off buying new wireless keyboard until I can be sure Mouse works OK.

    I have the same problem with the Magic Mouse I just got today. It disconnects at random and I have to click it (and some times wiggle it) to get it to connect again. This is on a machine that was/is working fine with an Apple Bluetooth Mighty Mouse.

    Same here. Magic Mouse disconnecting and reconnecting. Until now used Bluetooth Mighty Mouse without any issues at all.

    However the problem seems exacerbated by turning on Bluetooth on my iPhone.

    Again, that was not a problem with Mighty Mouse, but it seems to be throwing Magic Mouse for a loop. I consider this a bug. The protocol design of Bluetooth allows multiple devices to use it simultaneously, and I don't have any airport or microwave or cordless phone within 40ft. So the only other source of 2.4GHz noise is the macbook and the iphone.

    In my book (no pun intended) that should not cause any problems. I expect to see a firmware update for the magic mouse in the near future.

    I have been having the same Magic Mouse disconnection problem on a 2009 Mac Pro. Bluetooth is turned off on my iPhone.

    I too have the same problem... One thing I noticed is that it always disconnects after login... After that, all is fine until i restart.

    I have had my Magic Mouse for about a month and have just worked out how I can make these occasional disconnections happen at will. At the edge of my desk there is a slightly raised lip. If I move the mouse backwards (or forwards) so that it taps against the lip then the mouse disconnects.

    Of course I can also just hold the mouse up vertically and tap it down on the desk and get the same effect. Not much force is required.

    That's not to say that's the only way to get a disconnect.

    Anyone else get this?

    Confirmed. Lifting the mouse and tapping it back down causes a disconnect.

    Confirmed that holding MM vertical and tapping lightly on my mousepad forces a disconnect.

    I also had started getting random disconnects/reconnects during normal use, but it has not happened since I swapped out the batteries for a fresh set...

    I do not experience the tapping disconnection. Indeed, I have not been able to discern any pattern to the disconnections at all. I can usually reconnect, though, by holding the mouse close to the Mac (which is under my desk).

    That's interesting - so this looks like more than a single issue.

    When I tap vertically the green LED goes off for just a second - I don't know if this is a symptom of the disconnection of if it implies power loss due to a poor connection exacerbated by the shock.

    I'll see what Apple say when they open tomorrow.
