Yellow tinge from bottom to top of the screen, 27" iMac

My 27" is showing a yellow tinge when viewing on the bottom of the screen compared to the top?
This makes color corrections on my photos impossible. Anyone else has this problem? You can easily
see it on white or grey background (even in finder windows)

Winging about "yellow tinge" here will not fix the problem - Apple is the only one that can do that for you and it looks like they have it well under control now.
So, cheer up - the help to your problem is only a phone call away 😉
Do it now and stop wasting time posting here...

Hi atlatnesiti,

I made a phone call, but they gave me no answers about the yellow tinge. They were polite and professional, but they gave me not one clear information about this issue.

I wrote two emails:

+Dear Apple Team,+

+Nov 2009 I wanted to order a new 27" iMac, but than I found this thread in Apple Discussions:+

+Topic : New iMac 27inch screen flickering/tearing/shutoff+

+I decided to wait with my order and I was very happy, when the 27-inch iMac GraphicsFirmware Update 1.0 (December 21) was released. After some days it was clear that this update didn't help everybody and there were still a lot of people reporting about the ongoing flicker issue. The release of the 27-inch iMac Display Firmware Update 1.0 (February 01) finally brought the solution.+

+February 2010 I was sure to order, but than I found a second thread:+

+Topic : Yellow tinge from bottom to top of the screen, 27" iMac+

+This issue is really strange, because some of the posters think it's not an issue, but probably an illusion. Many think that the problem is the immature IPS-technology, but what do I know. The only working fix seems to be the LCD & LCD cable replacement, but to speak clear, that would never be acceptable for me.+

+I've to admit that I'm an Apple Fanboy (24" iMac, iPhone 3GS, 4 iPods, ...) and I wanted to have a new 27" iMac i7, 2TB, 4GB under my Christmas-tree and I can tell you, my hole family can give evidence about that. I'm waiting now over three months with my order and I'm still hoping to get a perfect machine, but these spooky issues remain a big problem for me and I don't want to invest my hard earned money in a sort of lottery. I know that Apple would repair a faulty machine and that I could also have a refund in the worst case, but that's not a solution for me. I need a perfect working computer without compromises. I promised my 24" iMac to my son and he's also very disappointed about this situation.+

+Please tell me honestly, if it's safe to order now. If you're not sure, so please give me an indication when the yellowing will be fixed.+

+Thank you very much for your efforts+
+... still dreaming of an 27" iMac i7+

+Dear Apple Team,+

+I'm still waiting for an answer. My email was not a joke!+

+Please visit this Topic: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2218213&tstart=0+
+and you can understand, why I'm afraid to get a faulty machine.+

+You can also call me, if you prefer to do that: ...+
+I'm speaking German, Italian and English.+

+Thank you!+

*I'm still waiting for an answer, but no answer is an answer, too.

Yea atlatnesiti, Apple is the only one that can solve the yellow tinge, but please don't try to convince us that the help to our problems is only a phone call away. Nice idea! :)*

*"Dear Potential Customer*

*You're absolutely correct, we do have issues with this current iMac and would prefer you not to spend your money on our latest and most up-to-date product.*

*We'll be sure to e-mail you when we think you should spend your money with our company but our advice, for the moment, is to hold off until we get it all sorted out or the technology matures. In the mean time please feel free to spend your money with one of our competitors.*

*Kind regards*

*The Apple Team"*

Do you honestly think you're going to get some response to your e-mail that say's something on the lines above?

Hi Dino, It's been a while. My i7 (iMac #3 built week 10, 4th unit produced that week), also had the Y.T. IMac #2 which had a slighter case of the tinge had another issue (which if the Apple Store had been less hostile would have been able to help me troubleshoot (installing HP software for Mac which conflicted with the OSX but being new to Mac, believed the Apple staff at the Apple Store). Apparently the unnecessary software caused crashes and a kernel panic. This was all resolved by Applecare by helping me delete the printer and just using Apple's update for a new driver. HOWEVER, the yellow screen was a little worse than before but I was prepared to just live with it. I had a problem with iPhoto and Time Machine and needed some Applecare assistance and just mentioned to Applecare that my screen had the Y.T. Support person politely offered to send me to the department that handles this (now that it is officially recognized) and speaking to this next person, I was given the choice of a repair or replacement. I am wary of a repair due to reading about the experience before and am worried if the new production week that I get will once and for all have the issue fixed. I opted for a replacement and I will have to be without an iMac for week or so since this will have to be sent back first. I did have to email a photo of my screen (the imacsqueaked test) to this support person. He confirmed that the screen was yellow. I will post my results when I get my new and hopefully last i7. Both people today were very nice and eager to resolve the issue. I have had this iMac since March 5th.

After going back and forth with apple support, they finally agreed to replace my screen. Apple support Japan will not allow anyone to email them at all so i had a hard time trying to get through to them after a blind technician said my badly yellow screen was in range.

I have seen very good Imacs so i know there are good screens this is why i am still wanting a screen replacement and if this fails i will get a machine replacement and then a refund.

I have been told if i want them to see my results to stick photos on the back of the imac when it gets picked up and i am also writing a letter to go on the back asking them to perform proper tests.

fingers crossed i at least get a screen where i cant see the yellow when using it

pug1334 & all the good people I have met on this thread. I will not any longer be posting to this thread. The Reason being, a lot of the Newer people on this thread have misunderstood my motives. It seems they think I am just feeding my ego & trying to manipulate people into doing what I would like them to do. All of you (you know who you are), who have communicated with me since the beginning, know that has never been my intention. I was, from the very beginning only trying to help people. If any of you would like to further communicate, I am being so bold as to leave my email address. If you need help, advice or just someone to understand your story, feel free to contact me @ dino1956@aim.com
And to all of you I wish you Good Luck! I will still watch this thread from time to time, to see how everyone is making out, but I will no longer make any more contributions or comments to this thread. Thank you!

You shouldn't let these negative people, and their comments, dictate what you post in this thread. If they don't like your posts, they can skip them. Personally, I think you should stay as you have done a great job helping people, and explaining the issue in a clear, comprehensive manner.

I hope you change your mind.

I remember what one of the first people at my local Apple Store said to me early January, when asked I about the yellow tinge. She said, "We don't discuss rumors." LOL! As I was paying for my first iMac, I expressed some nervousness about getting my i5 and one of the managers actually said to me: "I really don't know if i want to sell this to you because we believe in what what sell and we want you to be happy with your iMac." You don't forget garbage like this. I never thought that defects would be allowed to continue from October through March. The Apple Store retail experience is very off putting. Gotta admit, I love the computer but will decide if I want to go through this. What was especially interesting was that my local Best Buy has a small Apple section and the 27" iMac on display has a very bad yellow tinge and going through history on it's browser, there were many, many hits at the imacsqueaked.com website.

OK just received my my 3rd 27" from Apple today. It came all the way from Shanghai so straight of the production line.

Guess what. It is still yellow.

That is it I have had enough I will be asking for a refund. No matter what Apple says they have not fixed this issue and I think it is appalling that they are still selling these knowing that they are defective.
