Yellow tinge from bottom to top of the screen, 27" iMac

My 27" is showing a yellow tinge when viewing on the bottom of the screen compared to the top?
This makes color corrections on my photos impossible. Anyone else has this problem? You can easily
see it on white or grey background (even in finder windows)

Apple, stop torturing people with this problem! Stop this insane exchange with units that are also defective. Apple needs to stop the assembly line and investigate this properly. Apple also needs to
allow current purchasers a 90 day return, so apple can confidently exchange these bad units with good ones, without customers felling like they are gambling for a good unit.

I was in the same boat. I got a week 45 machine, which I got replaced (after really fighting with the Genius, who wasn't ready to acknowledge an issue, and went as far as calling me a liar in everything but the term) with a week 47 machine, which had the same issue. I initiated a RMA, and am getting a full refund.

I will wait till Apple can actually deliver on their promises of a stunning display, and works these niggling issues out. That is, if at all I decide to take my chances with an iMac again. This isn't the way it is supposed to be. For a product that's just supposed to work, there are apparently a whole slew of caveats involved.

As for the Apple Genius, I have complained about him to all the right places.

I went back to the apple store today and closely looked at two 27" imacs (both were the core duo model and both had perfect displays.) No change in the white/color temperature from top to bottom. After exchanging my first one (a core duo) after 2 days, I told the manager today that my second imac (which I upgraded to an i5) still has the problem, but not as severe as the first one. However,it is still unacceptable and I'm not just interested in another one out of the same group of bad batches. My production week is 48. I'm not sure what the production week was on the first unit.

I will be going to machine 3, but I would like apple to make sure the next one is right. Instead of me going through the process of hit or miss returns and going through the stores entire stock, it would be nice, and cheaper, for apple to schedule an exchange with a unit that has been built with a properly functioning LED LCD. As I mentioned in another post, right now, solving this problem is like real computer gambling. I could change it again and hit the jackpot with machine that functions as promised, or just get another one with the same problems and possibly more.

And the only reason I'm putting myself through this is because I still find the new i5 and i7 to be
the only computer I would be interested in right now.

Thank god I bought it from the apple store that's only 5 minutes from my home business. I can't imagine how stressful all these problems would be with shipping. Apple has no respect for our time. How many times can I set-up a computer, not to mention software loading. It takes final cut studio 4 hours to load.

So what are you going to do? Hold on to your current computer...for how long? I'd really like to swap mine for another, but I don't have any other problems (not even a single flicker, touch wood), and I'd bet money that I'd either get one just as bad or I'd get one with some other set of problems.

Right now, I don't want to spend the next year going into the apple store to see an imac that works as advertised and say, "I wish my imac looked like that." Incredible computer with one very important bad part, the screen, and it's hard to ignore it. At this point, I'll go through 5 exchanges if necessary. One every 13 days so I stay in my 14 period, plus I think it's exchangeable until Jan 5.

That is the reason why I've cancelled my i5 order yesterday. I'm just gonna wait when the chance of getting an iMac without screen problems is a lot bigger. The color consistency is the biggest reason that I ordered one.

I love my current iMac but it has the uneven problem (at the top it is darker then the bottom) which is something I really hate. I don't want to go through that again.

I really hope that the bugs are getting ironed soon as I really would like to get my hands on a 27" 🙂

Absolutely echo message from Tom Alexander. I have the wonderful new 27" iMac i7 (2TB HD), from week 47 manufacture run. However the screen had a very slight yellow tinge along the bottom from day one, but over the last week that has developed into yellow blotches around the full bottom right quarter of the screen when the machine has been running for a full day. Elements of the yellowing has a distinct 'honeycomb' appearance. I am 5 days within the 14 day return policy.

Surely it would make commercial and common sense for Apple to acknowledge the issue and give Customers the option to keep using effected systems until such time as the problem is fixed - then allow a hassle free the swap out. It looks like people are basically being forced to repeatedly evoke the 14 day return policy on a reoccurring fault or simply cancel the purchase. This must be economic and environmental madness, not to mention the brand disappointment for folk chasing the Apple quality promise.

Another data point for what it's worth...I went to Best Buy and checked out the 21.5" and 27" iMacs they had on display. The 21.5" definitely had the yellow tinge and the 27" definitely did not have the tinge. The smaller iMac was a week 39 model and the 27" was a week 41. I remember a post earlier in this thread (or perhaps the one on MacRumors.com) in which the poster stated that the only machines that he'd seen that didn't have the tinge were from week 41.

I noticed the yellow tint in the lower right corner this morning. I called my wife to look at it. She didn't see it at first, but then noticed after I Started Textedit and moved that window from the upper left of the screen (white) to the lower right (yellow). This machine is 6 days old. My Apple store is 2 hours away and I really don't want to be shuffling iMacs from here to there.

Bought the only 27" that was available at Best Buy, it was an open box return, paid $1480. Got it home everything was wrapped as new, no signs of use, until I booted it, where the guy who owned it for a day set his password. I reloaded the machine. Mine is a week 40 build, no flickering yet, NO dead pixels. Loaded the gray bar test page, had my wife look, she could not tell the difference between the upper and lower gray bars. I thought that I could see a very little difference in the lower bar, but NOW I WAS LOOKING FOR IT. It does not look like someone pee'd on my screen or anything. There is a very faint shadow line that I can see about 1 inch from the bottom of the screen that goes all the way horozontaly, but only on all white or all turquise blue screens, as I say - EVER SO SLIGHT, not noticeable in applications. Not enough bugging me here to return it. I am leaving PC life by the way...
