iTunes 9.0.2.25 skips during playback

Hello, I'm using 64-bit Win 7 Pro and iTunes 64 bit edition. During playback when I use the mouse scroll wheel or the keyboard arrows while in iTunes, the playback skips. Anyone else having this issue? I just did a clean install of Win 7 yesterday, so I know that there is not a virus or malware issue.

There hasn't been a flood of complaints about this, so I guess there is something about your set up that disagrees with itunes.

There is an Apple help article on troubleshooting playback problems here:

It might be worth trying a selective start up to look for conflicts:

If you have a another sound card on the PC, you could try that to see if there is a sound card issue.

It might also be worth looking at iTunes.exe on the processes tab in Task Manager. On my old XP machine I get 0-2% usage most of the time while a track is playing, higher when changing tracks.

One of the things in the links is checking that sound card drivers are up to date.
If your motherboard has a generic drive, it might be worth switching to that as a test - unless that's what you meant by sound card OK.

I am afraid you may be in for some detective work.

This was a very common problem with early versions of iTunes 7. Tracks played OK in Quicktime, but not iTunes although iTunes uses Quicktime to play tracks.

Have the exact same problem. iTunes has been running fine until just recently updating iTunes to the newest version (9.0.2.25). Currently running the Windows 7 7100 RC, and have 4GB of RAM. No sound card, only motherboard onboard sound card.

However I do run my music of an external hard drive. Not that this has ever been a problem in the past, nor do I believe it is the reason for iTunes doing this.

Have tried changing between all settings in the Quicktime Preferences in the Control Panel, restarting each time. Changed between preferences in the Windows 7 sound preferences; neither has made any difference.

I am currently running iTunes with the RAM at 37%, CPU at 10% and iTunes is still skipping. Have no idea where to progress from here, though I doubt a fresh install or new drivers will help (Have just done both recently). Any ideas?

After 2 months of looking for a fix (every once in a while) I found a solution (that worked for me) so I thought I might share it:

Control Panel -> Sound -> Playback Tab -> Right-Click Speakers/choose Properties -> Advanced Tab -> Choose highest 24bit Studio Quality setting under Default Format.

Hope this helps someone else!
