Safari doesn't work properly with Ebay

You'll have to do a lot better than your terse command if you want help. Safari works perfectly fine with eBay, as millions can attest to. If you're having a problem, you need to provide specific information for it, along with the specific Mac model you're using, the exact version of Mac OS X you're running, and the version of Safari you're using.

I've been able to make purchases w/ Safari using OSX10.3, 10.4 and 10.5. I did experience a problem using the contact customer support area of the site and was unable to complete the instructions that the site listed. A live chat representative from Ebay said that my problem was using Safari. He suggested that I use Firefox or Mozilla. The issue is Ebay not apple. Good luck contacting Ebay. You will have to use something other than Safari.

Firefox seems to work fine for editing the description for listing ebay items but in Safari you can't even hit return to skip to the next line

You can, but obviously not on your computer. If Firefox is your preference then use it. If you can't speed up Safari with suggested maintenance, then it is obviously an issue with your system.

How is this an ebay problem? Not sure but I can tell you that Safari has no issues with any sites which are coded properly. I and millions of others have no issue with Safari at all, the posts here in a troubleshooting forum are a tiny percentage of Apple users, others do not need to post here.

Have you tried creating a new account in your System Preferences>Accounts and log into that account and see how you go with Safari. If that works then it narrows things right down to an issue with the Admin account, so try that.

I've been having precisely the same eBay login issue. It occurred to me to simply delete the eBay related items from Keychain, visit eBay and re-enter my details. It worked: Safari (4.0.4) remembers both my eBay username and password.

There are issues with the listing editor in Safari. If you list things often it's worth having Firefox just to do the listings with.

On your computer maybe, I am a regular ebay seller and buyer and Safari gives me increadibly stable connection on my old Powerbook G4 running OSX 10.5.8 and Safari 4.0.4

I have no need to clean out cookies all the time, etc. just a bit of regular computer and internet maintenance and it flies.

I would rather Apple updates Safari, this IS NOT A EBAY PROBLEM. If it was; firefox, internet explorer and all other browsers would have problems but it is JUST safari. It is the selling description boxes that arent working properly and it is bloody annoying! I gues installing firefox would work.. but it seems a lot of stuffing around for just ebay, id rather apple fixed their software. Im sure there would be similiar sites that arent compatible with safari

Then tell Apple, this a user to user forum, although I don't think Apple will update just for your problem as hardly anybody is experiencing the same issue, just a couple on this troubleshooting forum.

Please don't use all caps, it is considered shouting. No this may well not be an ebay problem, but it is not a Safari issue either, it is an issue on your Safari and on your computer. Everyone I know has no trouble with ebay at all. In fact Safari 4.0.4 has made it even faster to log in and browse, buy etc.

Again, tell Apple, not us, through the Apple feedback page or file a bug report. They will update Safari if and when they decide, but it will not be to fix what is not broken.

I agree, as stated before that some sites are just lazy in updating their coding, usually not the high traffic sites though. Other sites only update their code for Windows IE and forget the rest of the world. Firefox, Opera, Camino etc. also can't access some sites.

So in conclusion, try Safari and OSX maintenance and if that fails, then try an archive and install. Because there is nothing wrong with Safari 4.0.4 and ebay, or else this forum would be inundated with thousands upon thousands of users complaining and that is not the case.

Actually, a lot of people are having trouble with Safari on eBay, especially with formatting text in the description box on the seller's form. It looks as though it's confined to Snow Leopard users. Using Firefox is an easy alternative. Still, it seems a little silly not to be able to use an Apple browser on so popular a site.

Something, somewhere certainly seems not to be working though.

The formatting options for the 'Describe the item you're selling' field have never appeared in my Safari browser, but they do appear in Firefox. Not even a system reinstall has made Safari work for me in that respect.

I can't explain it, neither am I going to inundate the forums. I really can't be bothered to complain, I just use Firefox for eBay business. No problem.

And it still isn't the case. Only a handful of posters with this issue, showing that it isn't widespread. I know a lot of Mac users yet not one with ebay issues. So I stick by this. Perhaps your problem runs deeper and you should start your own thread as a lot of other users would just read the OP's ridiculous and blunt first post and look no further through this thread.

Nobody is saying that you do not have an issue with Safari and ebay, just saying it's an isolated issue with only a tiny % of users. And others here would like to help, but you are lost in someone else's thread.

Also, it's safe to assume that if the same problem shows up even a few times here it's something that may not be "widespread"--as in millions--but is very likely to be affecting a lot of people. Anecdotal evidence to the contrary "hardly deserves an answer."

It seems also clear that the problem probably stems from specific combinations of firmware, OS versions and software, which would explain why it's not global. Certainly, given Safari's checkered history interfacing with eBay, it's safe to assume that it's Apple's responsibility to isolate the problem and fix it in future OS and/or Safari updates.

Sorry I have never noticed this with Safari and ebay as an ongoing problem since early versions. If it is Apple's problem I am sure it will be or has been fixed, but to make ebay blameless????? Is that safe to assume as well?

No,my tone has been appropriate in dealing with the OP's enquiry or demand, and certainly not derogitory, I have seen and had posts moderated, that is why I am careful not to cross any lines in the terms of agreement we all read and agreed to before joining this forum.
