Printing mailing labels from address book including spouses name

Related names will not appear on the envelope or label if another card exists with the same first name as the related name and a different address than the card you are printing. To ensure that the related name will get printed, create a card with the same name as the related name, and include the same address as the card you are printing.

For example, if you want to print a label for the card "Sally Miller" which includes her spouse's name "Sam Miller", but you have a second card in your address book for "Sam Jones" with a different address, Sam's name will not appear on the label for Sally Miller. You can create a card for "Sam Miller" which has the same address as "Sally Miller" and then Sally's mailing label will include Sam's name.

In my case, I put the names I want on my cards as part of the first name. For example, +Joe & Ann+ would be in the first name field. Crude, but it works.

No help to you, but I do not know. Frankly, I am afraid to test it on my own system as my address book is "live."

Try one thing:

Trash a couple of preference files and then restart:

com.apple.addressbook.plist
com.apple.addressbook.abd.plist

Then reenter your personal preferences and see if it works the way you want.

I have the same problem. Did you ever find a solution.

I am having the same issue trying to print thank you notes from our wedding. The article above applied to Leopard, but apparently doesn't work in Snow Leopard. I was able to print the wedding invitations properly (John & Jane Doe etc) but have since upgraded and now whatever I try the spouse fileds will not print.

I've tried several Apple channels to find the fix -- none have worked. I used their "appointment" 800 line, and the person that called me back couldn't help me. She had me make an appointment at with a genius. I went in and visited a Genius today, and he asked for help, and think its a "new bug" that it won't work in Snow Leopard. The second Genius confirmed that I had built my address contact lists (one for each spouse with the same address) the right way and it used to work that way. No one could explain why it wouldn't work or what it takes to make it work. So, I guess I"m hand-writing in the names or ? which will look very tacky and take more effort and I won't have a clean count on my labels. They did suggest I try a word program for labels, but I haven't researched that. Maybe someone in Apple will read this and fix the software glitch?

I also have the same problem. Really hope this gets fixed soon, as Christmas is almost upon us!

I just discovered this problem today as I was getting ready to send this year's Christmas cards. Doesn't look a fix is going to be ready in time 😟

Anyone find a solution tho this, this was a very nice feature that we used alot!
please apple fix this!

I'm having an even worse problem; the list I set up last year is now reverting to print business address for some contacts, no address for others (even though they have at least 1 address in the database and 2 records (both a label to the business and another to the home) for a select few. It seems random and I don't get a sense of any pattern to it (or I'm just blind and don't recognize the pattern) so it's hard to think of a fix. I may be stuck cutting and pasting into word. Makes me sorry I gave up on Now Contact when I moved to OS X many years ago.....any ideas would be most appreciated. I'm wondering if it's a syncing issue and I'm going to stop syncing w/ MobileMe if I ever get it sorted out.

I'm glad it's not just me having this problem! I've spent the last hour or so messing around in address book trying to get spouse's names to print, to no avail. All the apple support docs seemed to indicated it was possible, but it just refused to work.

I'm sure I had this working previously under Leopard, so it does indeed seem to be a Snow Leopard issue (I'm on 10.6.2 just now). I hope they fix this soon.

I contacted Applecare and the rep confirmed that the "spouse inclusion" problem is an issue with Snow Leopard - it still works in Leopard. I asked if they planned to fix it. He put me on hold while he contacted a Sr. Advisor who told him that it is not a malfunction of Snow Leopard and the Address Book was never meant to print labels in that manner. I objected stating that if that is true, why does the Apple Support page describe the "spouse inclusion" function in the discussion of how to print labels. I was transferred to another Sr. Advisor who told me that this functionality was removed from Address Book with the introduction of Snow Leopard and they do not intend to put it back.
