How to Pair an Old Style Apple Wireless Keyboard with 10.6.1

Hi,

I have a new 15" 2.4Ghz Core Duo MacBook Pro. When I try and pair with an older style apple brand wireless bluetooth keyboard (white and clear kind) the setup assistant recognizes the keyboard and even remembers the name I gave it with my previous machine. Whne I double click to pair the computer with the keyboard, the wheel spins and after a while returns a error telling me to make sure the device is on and in within range of the computer.

Has anyone else ran into this problem? Anyone know how to fix it??

I have similar problem.

I have late 2008 uMBP and I cannot pair my older model wireless keyboard with my MBP anymore. It recognizes the keyboard and gives out the pairing code. But when I enter the code, MBP tells that there was a problem pairing the device. The batteries are new.

Any ideas how to proceed?

Mmm,

Well, I fired up my old white BT keyboard and, though it took a while to pair I'm typing on it now on the 2007 MBP15" SantaRosa.

....

OK, now I've disconnected it from the SR (on which I'm typing this - now using the built in keyboard) by turning off BT on the computer, and have connected it to the 2009 MBP13. Again , it took its time about connecting, but it got there in the end. So clearly it is still compatible with modern Mac notebooks (both are running under OSX 10.6.2)

Any possibility that you might be suffering from interference from another BT device (mobile phone or the like)? Have you paired it successfully in the past?

Cheers

Just tried pairing another white bt keyboard (from my gf's iMac) and same result; could not pair it.

I have succesfully paired my keyboard earlier.

Tried to reset PRAM but holding PR and cmd+alt in when booting did not do anything. I think I might have to go to the local apple store (again)...

Something is definetly wrong with the bluetooth. I managed to pair the keyboard yesterday after maybe 30 retries.

Later that evening I took my laptop to living room and when I got back to my work room, the keyboard failed to connect again.

I am sure the problem lies within the software updates since the keyboard worked flawlesly earlier. Also I can pair the keyboard with my gf's iMac which is running 10.5 (Leopard).

Mmm, Ken, I have all current updates installed and I don't have any problem pairing with the old white BT keyboard, so it clearly involves something beyond OS updates! Maybe an interaction issue with some third party stuff on your Mac? Maybe the batteries you are using are simply not up to scratch?

I just want to disable the bit of software that is causing this...

Yes, but what software is causing the problem, Ken? I'm running Snow Leopard (10.6.2) on both a current model Unibody MBP and an earlier Santa Rosa and can pair the white keyboard with either. I wonder if interference from another BT device or the like could be involved? THis really seems to be the most likely cause.

Cheers
