'Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer' - Greyed out

Not sure when this happened, but my setting for 'Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer' has become greyed out and instead of being switched off, it's now switched on.

As I had a problem with my iMac's bluetooth seemingly waking itself randomly (never could resolve that), I'd like to be able to keep it switched off as an option.

I have recently installed a Magic Mouse on this iMac, I'm not sure if that's a contributing factor or not, but worth mentioning just in case.

I have tried resetting the SMC, PRAM and trashing the Bluetooth preferences to no avail.

If anyone has any pointers regarding this matter, it'd be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Thank you!

I was experiencing this problem with the new 2AA Apple bluetooth keyboard on a unibody MBP with 10.6.2. I deleted the preference file in (/Library/Preferences/com.apple.bluetooth) and restarted as you suggested. I re-paired my keyboard and I now have the option to turn off wake-from-sleep for bluetooth devices.

The internet is littered with people desperately trying to get this issue resolved.
There are several fixes suggested. I've tried most of them but my "Allow bluetooth devices to wake this computer" option remains greyed out so neither my wireless mouse nor my keyboard will wake my 24 inch iMac.

Apple are fully aware of this problem and yet I have not seen Apple sending out software updates to help their Customers. Is this yet another problem that upgrading to Snow Leopard has caused us?

Come on Apple, it's time to help those who put you where you are today !!!

Hi,

I'm really disappointed. I have a 20" iMac with Bluetooth keyboard and Magic Mouse. I've noticed months ago that my BT devices wake the iMac when I'm sleeping. I've switched off the Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer checkbox and everything was fine until now. My iMac woke up in the middle of the night. I checked if the checkbox is swithed on and I noticed that yes, the checkbox is ticked and greyed out so I can't swith off this function.

I did the PRAM reset and SMC reset. I've deleted the Bluetooth preference file nothing helped for me.

I noticed that if I hook up a wired keyboard and mouse to the iMac and I restart it I can switch off the feature. But after I disconnect the wired device and the iMac restarts it is checked and greyed back.

Any other advices? What should I do?

Hi,

I have had the same problem with my bluetooth devices waking my computer at odd hours. I have a temporary fix (until there is an update that addresses the issue) that has worked for me.

First attach a usb mouse and delete your bluetooth devices from the bluetooth pref pane in system prefs. When you re-pair the mouse and keyboard for the first time you will have the option of setting the "Allow bluetooth devices to wake this computer" to off.

Then all you do is keep the usb mouse plugged in (and out of site!) and use it to wake your computer if it goes to sleep. I find that this way the computer does not automatically change the bluetooth setting to "ticked and greyed out"

Unfortunately it uses up a usb port, but it has been working well for me.

Try it and see if it helps for now?

I have been having the same problem (checked and greyed-out "allow bluetooth devices to wake this computer"). I called Apple several times and they were unable to help to me.

My computer wakes from sleep automatically about 1 minute after I put it to sleep. It only truly sleeps once I put it back to sleep after it automatically wakes up. Very annoying and a problem that has occurred off and for several months.

Any help?

This works for me also. I notice however that repairing is not necessary. As soon as the USB mouse is plugged in the 'wake' option is available to uncheck. Unplugging the USB sets the check and greys the option.
