DDR3 vs DDR2

Hi there. I own an Intel iMAC and a white intel macbook. I'm buying a macbook pro 13 inch this month and I would like to know a bit more about its memory. I have 3GB ddr2 on both my macs. will the 2gb ddr3 on the macbook pro be faster than 3gb of ddr2 ? Or do I really need to install more memory in order to match it ? thanx a lot !

DDR3 memory is generally faster than DDR2 memory. Whether the system will be faster will depend on what it's doing. If 2GB is enough to keep the OS from having to do a lot of paging to virtual memory (which will depend on the applications you run, but which ones and how many at once), then your 2GB DDR3-based system may well be faster than a 3GB DDR2 system.
