Charging iPod's battery - how much? how long?

Is there any indicator of the iPod's battery when its connected to my Mac? By that, I mean, is there any way to see how long it will take to charge my iPod's battery? and how can I tell when it is fully charged?

The battery on my MacBook Pro does all those things. I would like to know how to tell when my iPod is fully charged. Or, if it needs a charge, how long it will take, approximately.

Right now, the only thing I can figure out to do is to eject the iPod and then look at its own batter indicator to see how "full" it is. Not a classy solution, by any means.

Hi Mr. Jingle,

What myserables is trying to say is that it will take a few hours to charge. As the newer iPods (160GB in 2009) have a rapid charge feature (as noted on this tech specs page: http://www.apple.com/ipodclassic/specs.html)... So within 2 hours it will have 80% of the battery power back in the device and a 4 hour charge for a complete... Stating the device is drained out completely.

But also while the iPod is connected to your PC/MAC or wall the battery indicator in the upper right hand corder should still show... While charging it will have a lightning bolt in the battery indicator.... When fully charged it will have a wall plug picture.

Equally in iTunes, you will see a similar logo next to your iPod. That logo will also show a percentage factor underneath the lightning bolt when charging, and then go to the plug when fully charged. So you shouldn't need to eject it constantly, as both devices give you an indicator while connected.

Hope this clarifies the charging factor times for you!

Thank you!! I was wondering, regarding the lightning bolt, vs. the plug icon.

The "it takes a couple of hours" answer was really not what I was looking for.

I need to look the iPod again when it's connected to my Mac, I don't **think** that I could see any battery indicator, which was why I was wanting to know progress. At least with the lightning bolt vs. plug icon, I can know when it is finished charging. I wish that there were a percentage indicator, like there is on my MacBook Pro battery indicator in the menu bar so that I can better judge how far it has to go.

Thanks for your help, iNexxFear, I'll call this answered!

While it's connected and done syncing, just tap the click wheel... The screen will either illuminate showing you the charge status (with the really big green battery) or it will go to the home menu where the battery will be in the corner.

You can still touch and use the iPod even tough its connected.... Just don't interrupt a sync process..

That's the only real advice I have to offer you! 🙂 Otherwise you'll be fine to touch it to see the status.

Just as a follow-up...

I have my iPod connected right now and the click wheel is completely unresponsive. There is no sync in progress, but it is charging. The display shows "Connected - Eject before disconnecting". There is the menu bar and the little battery icon, which shows the lightning bolt. That's all I have. There is no way to use the iPod nor is there any "big green battery".
