Hi Mr. Jingle,
What myserables is trying to say is that it will take a few hours to charge. As the newer iPods (160GB in 2009) have a rapid charge feature (as noted on this tech specs page:
http://www.apple.com/ipodclassic/specs.html)... So within 2 hours it will have 80% of the battery power back in the device and a 4 hour charge for a complete... Stating the device is drained out completely.
But also while the iPod is connected to your PC/MAC or wall the battery indicator in the upper right hand corder should still show... While charging it will have a lightning bolt in the battery indicator.... When fully charged it will have a wall plug picture.
Equally in iTunes, you will see a similar logo next to your iPod. That logo will also show a percentage factor underneath the lightning bolt when charging, and then go to the plug when fully charged. So you shouldn't need to eject it constantly, as both devices give you an indicator while connected.
Hope this clarifies the charging factor times for you!
