On Screen Sound Meter not showing up

Hi,

I do not know how or when this happened but when I hit the volume up,down, mute buttons on my keyboard the meter with the speaker and white bars does not show up. It still clicks and adjusts sound, but the on screen meter does not show up.

I looked under system pref>sound and there was nothing for on screen indicator. i am so baffled and getting annoyed.

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

Maybe try trashing these preference files and then restarting your machine.
/Library/Preferences/com.apple.audio.DeviceSettings.plist and
/Library/Preferences/com.apple.audio.SystemSettings.plist

Another idea is to zap your Mac's PRAM as described in this Apple support document.

Resetting the ram with the key combo did it for me. Thanks so much, you saved me before a mental breakdown 🙂
