2 questions: how to rotate movies in iPhoto '09; sort changes in albums

Hi-I have 2 questions about iPhoto '09:
1. I took some movies with my Canon camera and evidently rotated the camera to take the short movies. In iPhoto the movies are sideways-I am not able to use the Rotate button (it's grayed out)-is there anyway to rotate them?
2. In an album I usually move photos around to the way I like. When I go to the top of the sidebar and choose Photos and go to that album, the changes aren't reflected. Is there a way to make what I changed in the Album also change how the Album looks when going through the Photos?

Thanks for any tips! Judy

You'll need to do this in Quicktime Pro or some other video editing app.

No, because an album is not the same as the Photos view of the Library. You'll need to redo the work there.

Sorry if this is too late: only just seen your post. Three ways to rotate movies -
1 Buy Quicktime Pro
2 Get TransformMovie (donationware, with free trial period) from http://www.limit-point.com/Utilities.html
3 Use the AppleScript given on the following MacOSXHints thread: http://forums.macosxhints.com/showthread.php?t=13163&highlight=rotate+video

But after you've rotated the movie the thumbnail in iPhoto is still on its side. If you track down the original thumbnail images and rotate them in a graphics program they then appear the right way up but distorted because the thumbnail retains its landscape shape. I haven't found how to cure that.

RichardJones...I'm sorry to reply to you on here, but did you ever find the copy of FontMonger that you were looking for? (You had a post on the forums here in 2007). I found a download location for the software. I actually still have it on floppy (doubt that it would work, even if I had a floppy drive), as well as the manual. Hi there,

sorry for resurrecting this thread, but don't see the point in opening a new one.

The above method seems to be the easiest one, but, pardon the silly question, how do I run the script? And what do I do once I have done it??

Thanks.

PS

When I look into Apploications, the folder "applescript" is empty:(

Hi,

that's kind of interesting. My only problemS are:
1) I cannot see the arrows you mention (I have iMovie9 Ver. 8.0.2, I think...)
2) My camera hqs produced .mpg files and iMovie don't seem to like them (I have never used it though... so bear with me:))

Forgot to say, the videos are now in iPhoto, although I think I can load them back on the camera, but what a drag that would be!!!!

Opps. Wasn't clear enough. Should have said the top of the Event Library pane on the bottom left corner between the slider and the camera button. 😟

You con't have to load them on to the camera. Command+click on one of the movies in iPhoto and select Show File. That will take you to the file in the Finder where you can COPY it to the Desktop. Then drag it onto the iMovie icon to import. Once you've rotated it import it into iPhoto and delete the original movie.
