    They are all GUID partitions. And if it's necessarry I can delete the other files in the partition to empty it. Or If I don't need to empty it I can at least get rid of however much i need to.....all the way up to 150 GB.

    I think it's more important to have a bootable external disk to be able to repair my mac from than it is to keep old music files etc.

    OK great.

    We'll want to clear at least 100GB for this.

    Some files can be left on the drive if need be, but we must move them all to a folder with a unique name that won't get over written when we clone, I suggest OldData perhaps.

    Then, we need to be certain we choose the option not to erase the partition or replace exiting files.

    I've deleted some things and put the rest in a folder "OLDDATA" as suggested. Now there is 100 GB free.

    This process won't affect the other 2 partitions will it?

    It should not affect the other 2 partitions.
