Tungsten E2 syncs fine - but I can't get online....

Hello,
I recently purchased a Palm Tungsten E2, did my best at setting up, and can sync fine both via cable and via Bluetooth. I can't for the life of me figure out how to get on the web. After I "connect" it states Service Connection Progress and Singing On...and then I keep getting the following error: Error: PPP timeout (0x1231).
Before this I was getting the following error message: Error: Serial: timeout. Could be bad cable or faulty modem.
Any help would be appreciated - and thank you!
John

Are you attempting to connect through a Bluetooth-equpped mobile handset, or to your PowerBook using internet sharing?

You might review this note about configuring such services on a Tungsten E2:

The most common reason for this error surfacing when attempting to connect through a mobile handset, in my experience, is that your wireless plan does not include a data component, or that it is not properly configured. Have you checked with your wireless provider to insure that you are able to connect to data services in addition to voice services?

Other faults can result in this same notification, including the failure to point to a valid DNS server, a failure to wait for a connection - this is a modem script error or oversight - or, the use of a modem script which is not supported by the GSM or CDMA radio in your mobile handset. The place to start with troubleshooting this is with your wireless provider.

No mobile phone is involved. I simply want to surf the web on the Palm E2, using Bluetooth and my PowerBook. The PowerBook is connected to the Internet through AirPort. HotSync via Bluetooth works fine. I just cannot log into the PowerBook using the E2.

Note that the bluetooth connection works fine. When I attempt to surf the web on the E2, the PowerBook wakes up from sleep, but the E2 is never able to open a session or connect to the Internet.

BTW, I can surf the web using the E2 and my mobile phone, which works great, although it's fairly slow and expensive.

I understand now - and here's the problem: Mac OS X does not support internet sharing from a Bluetooth device through an ethernet, WiFi or modem interface. Some hacks have been offered, but I have yet to see one that offers a consistent, reliable, trouble-free connection.

Internet sharing, however - via Bluetooth or USB - is explicitly supported by
b The Missing Sync for Palm OS
from Mark/Space. It's just one additional feature in a suite of conduits, services and applications to support synchronization using the standard Palm PIM conduits, iSync, the Entourage conduit supplied by Microsoft, and most other third-party conduits. Once configured using the built-in Internet Sharing Assistant, sharing is just a double-click, single-button operation.

I've used the USB variant with my Treo 600, and it has performed flawlessly. By the way, it's faster via USB, though clearly more convenient via Bluetooth.
