Magic Mouse Guide for Windows 7 and Vista,,,

Hello All,

I recieved my Magic Mouse and it works great under OSX but I couldn't get it working under Windows at all. Searching here and around the web, I've compiled a guide on how I got it working. Hopefully, Apple will release proper drivers in the future but for now, here is what I did:

Turn mouse off...if you have already tried installing, remove the device and then turn the mouse off. To remove it, open Start, type "Devices" and press enter. Select "remove device"...Now let's get started:

1) Update the Bluetooth Driver.
Open Device Manager.
Start > (Right Click Computer) > Properties. Click Device Manager in upper left of this window. Double click (Bluetooth Radios), Right click on "Generic Bluetooth" and select "Properties". Open the Driver tab and then select "Update Driver". Click "Browse my computer for driver software". On the next screen, towards the bottom, click on "Let me pick from a list of device drivers...". Uncheck "Show compatible hardware". Select "Apple" and then "Apple built in bluetooth". Done

2)In the notification area of the task bar, right click on Bluetooth icon and select "Add a device". Turn on your mouse. It will show up on screen. Right click on the mouse icon. Select Properties. Select the "Services" tab and check the "Drivers for keyboard, mice, etc". The mouse may disappear from the screen since it's been added. Windows is still looking for other devices so click "Cancel".

3) Disable power management for Bluetooth Radio. Open device manager, open Bluetooth Radios and right click on "Apple Bluetooth". Select the "Power Management". Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".

4) Reboot computer. Mouse should be working in Windows 7/Vista now.

* If you reboot and your mouse is still not working, click on the mouse two or three times. On my system, the mouse will not begin working until I do this, every time I boot my system. *

Hope this helps,

Al

I had already gotten my magic mouse to work under Bootcamp/XP with the exception of horizontal scrolling (vertical scrolling works fine).

The one feature I really need in the magic mouse is horizontal scrolling (particularly for MS Excel 2003). (It would be great if I could get the horizontal scrolling working in the trackpad too)

In any event, I followed instructions in the post that advised to install the Microsoft Intellisense drivers for the SideWinder X8. I did this but still have no horizontal scrolling.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

I know this post is old but I just ran through this whole process and noticed the links to the fix were down now.

Once you get through the ordeal that is installing windows to the new iMac i7 (late 2009), heres how you get the mouse working:

1. install the drivers from the Mac OS X disk (all the windows drivers are on that disk). Just run the setup.exe on the disk.
2. Reboot
3. Install Windows Updates
4. Reboot
5. Run the "Apple Software Update" program that should be in your start menu and it will download Boot Camp 3.1 - this is the key to getting all the blue tooth/keyboard/mouse drivers updated.
6. Reboot
7. Now when you boot into windows, the mouse should work EXCEPT the middle scroll will not work (touch scrolling)
8. Download the hacked driver - http://www.redmondpie.com/apple-magic-mouse-works-on-windows-7-914013/ and run through its installation
9. reboot
10. Now when you log into windows, it will install the hacked driver and the scrolling should start working.

If still problems, drop me a line on this thread. I just spent the last 4 hours configuring Windows 7 Ultimate on an iMac (got the black screen, did the NTFS delete of the default ATI driver in the windows directory, then did everything I mentioned above).

Its been interesting so far so hopefully this help the next person who has to deal with all this.

It works fine if you download the Windows driver pack, unrar the drivers files and run the exe for your 32 or 64 bit version of Windows.

This works in bootcamp on a mac in VM or on a standard PC that natively boots Windows. I'm lovin' it in Win7!

note: if you have touch of the palsy, you may spaz your way around the screen a little so bear this in mind; until you master potentially more subtle movements, and possibly adjust your sensitivity settings a bit, YMMV

Okay so I could do with a little help if possible. I have the Magic Mouse working on my Windows 7 HP Pavilion DV6000. As per other posts, can use mouse including left and right click okay, but no scrolling. The problem is all the links to teh "hacked" drivers for windows 7 32bit do not work. Anyone know an alternative download location?

Yep, that's because you haven't installed the drivers. Google AppleWirelessMouse64.exe or AppleWirelessMouse32.exe which have been extracted from the self-extracting exe called AppleBcUpdate.exe. run the 32-bit or 64-bit version for your O/S and away ya go!

I found em on download.com but they are all over the place. Don't expect any support from apple for these though.

The drivers installed correctly and showed version and success on completion. The mouse appears in device manager as HID - compliant mouse, using microsoft drivers mouclass.sys, mouhid.sys and pctCore.sys. When I try and change the drivers i browse to where the apple drivers are and it states that windows has determined the driver software for my device is up to date.

You may need to uninstall the drivers that are loaded. My mouse appeared as a HID compliant device when I first paired it with bluetooth. Then loaded the drivers (running the exe) after which it appears as an Apple Wireless Mouse.

No need to manually change the drivers, mine just worked once I had run the exe. Try downloading the driver exe files from a new source.
