Magic Mouse Guide for Windows 7 and Vista,,,

Hello All,

I recieved my Magic Mouse and it works great under OSX but I couldn't get it working under Windows at all. Searching here and around the web, I've compiled a guide on how I got it working. Hopefully, Apple will release proper drivers in the future but for now, here is what I did:

Turn mouse off...if you have already tried installing, remove the device and then turn the mouse off. To remove it, open Start, type "Devices" and press enter. Select "remove device"...Now let's get started:

1) Update the Bluetooth Driver.
Open Device Manager.
Start > (Right Click Computer) > Properties. Click Device Manager in upper left of this window. Double click (Bluetooth Radios), Right click on "Generic Bluetooth" and select "Properties". Open the Driver tab and then select "Update Driver". Click "Browse my computer for driver software". On the next screen, towards the bottom, click on "Let me pick from a list of device drivers...". Uncheck "Show compatible hardware". Select "Apple" and then "Apple built in bluetooth". Done

2)In the notification area of the task bar, right click on Bluetooth icon and select "Add a device". Turn on your mouse. It will show up on screen. Right click on the mouse icon. Select Properties. Select the "Services" tab and check the "Drivers for keyboard, mice, etc". The mouse may disappear from the screen since it's been added. Windows is still looking for other devices so click "Cancel".

3) Disable power management for Bluetooth Radio. Open device manager, open Bluetooth Radios and right click on "Apple Bluetooth". Select the "Power Management". Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".

4) Reboot computer. Mouse should be working in Windows 7/Vista now.

* If you reboot and your mouse is still not working, click on the mouse two or three times. On my system, the mouse will not begin working until I do this, every time I boot my system. *

Hope this helps,

Al

Hi Sam,

it's not a big deal. Just download 7-Zip (http://www.7-zip.org/) and install it. Then get the latest BootCamp_3.3, (mouse) right-click, unpack the file with 7-Zip to "BootCamp_3.3" (7-Zip offers you this option in the menu!). Well, now you should have a folder with this name.

Open folder "BootCamp_3.3".

Open subfolder ".rsrc".

Open subfolder "0".

Open subfolder "MSP_RESOURCE".

Then right-click the file "UPDATE64" (presumed you use a 64-bit-system on your pc). Extract file "UPDATE64" with 7-Zip to folder "UPDATE64~". Again: 7-Zip offers you this option! You don't have to create this folder.

Open folder "UPDATE64~".

Open folder "BootCamp3303ToBootCamp3302".

Search for file "Binary.AppleWirelessMouse_Bin".

Right-click, unpack with 7-Zip to folder "Binary".

Open folder "Binary", go to file "DPInst".

Double click, install. That's the driver for Wireless Mouse.

Ready? Then delete the folder "Binary" and go to file (still in folder "BootCamp3303ToBootCamp3302"!) "Binary.MultiTP_Bin". Right click, unpack it to folder "Binary". Open folder "Binary", go to file "DPInst" (yes, it's the same name!).

Double click, install. It's the driver for Multitouch Mouse and Multitouch.

Provided you want to use an Apple Keyboard - the driver is more or less hidden in the file "Binary.AppleKeyboard_Bin". ;-)

Good luck!

Hmmm ... Well, go to the bluetooth-icon in the right corner below (it should be there, otherwise go to "devices and printers" in the system control; hope, that's the english equivalent, i use the german version. Right-click bluethooth-device, choose bluetooth-settings, mark box "show bluethooth-symbol ...", click OK). Back to the right corner: Click bluethooth-symbol, choose "add device", a window jumps up. switch on your mouse, it should appear in this window. Right-click the mouse-symbol, choose "properties" (or similar), mark box "driver for keyboard, mouse etc.". Click "apply" (the very right button). Wait, the driver should finally be installed, click OK. You have to restart your computer - now magic mouse should automatically be paired. Let me know ... ;-)

I'm still having problems with the multitouch feature - although the mouse mouvements are working and bluetooth pairing is fine. I followed these steps to the letter and the drivers are currently

system32/DRIVERS/mouclass.sys

system32/DRIVERS/mouhid.sys

(by the way - it still says Driver Provider: Microsoft" in the menu overview).

Do you know what I could possible be doing wrong here?

Hi

Currently having the same problem as kthelgason. I'm using Windows 7 x64 on a PC.

I can get the bluetooth to sync up, and the mouse runs on windows drivers (default). But it wont accept the apple drivers (Apple Magic Mouse & Multi Touch drivers). I've tried bootcamp (only for the magic mouse drivers) 3.1, 3.2 and 3.3 already with no different results. Device manager recognizes the mouse as an apple mighty mouse. I've tried searching for them manually and install them, but that wont work either.

Current drivers listed are:

system32/DRIVERS/mouclass.sys

system32/DRIVERS/mouhid.sys

Also it seems the new drivers wont appear under C:\Windows\System32\drivers, but I don't know if that matters at all here.

When I try to install the apple drivers (through: hardware then upgrade driver) I get this message

"Windows could not find driver software for your device.
If you know the manufacturer of your device..."

Any ideas?
Thanks!

This might help. Boot to OSX and disconnect your bluetooth magic mouse. Now boot into windows and pair your magic mouse. Hopefully your mouse will now work. If it is successful boot into OSX and pair your magic mouse. It should work in both OSX and Windows now.

This worked for me on the magic track pad.

Thanks for the tip, didn't work for me (I can connect no problem; no scrolling)User uploaded fileUser uploaded file.

Luckily your link is one of the few that is still active. I downloaded the 32 bit version and tried to run it on my Win 7 32 bit machine. The installer starts and gets 90% done then backs out with with the error posted above (which of course I cannot diagnose since it is in Russian)...any suggestions??

Thanks! Hope we get this scroll thing going.
