Bluetooth Audio disconnected: headset problem.

I've got a long term problem with my bluetooth headset. It works poorly. I bought a SE hbh-660 to use with skype/gizmo/ichat but generally it disconnects either after a few seconds or a few minutes, giving the following error:

Your headset unexpectedly disconnected. Make sure it is turned on and in range. The audio portion of the program you were using may have to be restarted.

The headset works fine with my SE phone (T39M). It basically means this expensive headset it useless for my purposes. I can continue using the program (gizmo/skype), and I plug in regular headphones, but each time I try to use the bluetooth headset it does the same thing.

I'm on a Tibook with updated DBT-120 adaptor, latest BT firmware and it's still doing it after the 10.4.3 upgrade this morning. Any ideas on how to fix this would be most welcome.

Cheers,

Justin.

I have a similar Problem.

I tried using my BT Headset (SonyEricsson HBH-610) with my Skype running on Power Mac G5 OS X.10.3. I can listen to songs on my headset from iTunes, no problem. But when I try using the Headset with Skype, the audio from other end of the Skype phone coumes out the Mac speakers and the other end can't hear me, soon after I get a message "Bluetooth Audio failed".

I called Apple support and established that my Mac Hardware is BT v1.1, my BT firmware is 1.5, my bluetooth Adapter is 2.0 and my SonyEricsson headset is 2.0.

So the sound on the speaker travels through BT versions like this (when I listend to iTunes song)

MAC Logic Board 1.1 -> Firmware 1.5 -> Porto Adapter 2.0 -> Headset 2.0

But when my Mic is used (for Skype) it travels in reverse. I suspect it fails because it is travelling from higher version to lower version.

The physical hardware available on Mac at the moment is 1.1. Until they upgrade the hardware version to 2.0, I don't think VoIP on headset is possible.

If anybody got BT 2.0 headset working, please let me know.

If you can hear iTunes through your SE HBH 650, the problem is most likely the Skype audio settings. Go to Skype Preferences and click the Audio button. Then set the audio input and output to the SE headset.
In the Mac OS X 10.4.3 Sound Preference, set Input to the SE headset and Output to the Powermac internal speaker. Then you should be able to hear anybody ringing you at the Mac speaker but conversation will all be via the SE headset.
Could you post more details about the Porto Adapter 2.0 USB BT adapter? Where did you buy it and did you have to flash it with Apple's BT Firmware updater 1.2 or did it pair with the SE HBH 650 out of the box?

Sorry, I see it is the SE HBH-610 but the same thinking still applies to the Skype settings. Could you go to More Info under the About this Mac drop down (under the Blue Apple at the top right of the desktop) and click on Bluetooth and copy and paste all the displayed information for the BT USB Porto Adapter 2.0 here. I am especially interested in the Firmware revision, HCI revision, etc.
For example, here is what I get for my Princeton BT dongle which supports Apple's wireless keyboard and mouse but not the headset profile:
