Will the 5th generation Nano fit into docking stations without any problems?

I haven't been able to get the ipod nano 5g to play music in my docking station. The dock is a "JBL On Time" and works OK with a nano 2g. I strongly suspect that the pin-outs on the 2g and 5g are different. Perhaps there is an adapter which can allow the 5g to play in a 2g dock?? I'm rather pi**ed-off that there is no mention of a pin-out change on the Apple site. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
You need to make sure that the dock you are using is compatible with the 5th Gen Nano. Even if the plug will fit, it may not be fully compatible. So make sure and check before buying.

I have the exact same problem: my iPod Nano 5G won't play music on my JBL OnTime. Shouldn't Apple warn consumers if they have changed the dock system?

The same problem exists for the Teac DX 32i. The system will partially operate, but will not charge. A reply suggested that scosche.com offers a charging adapter (iFWA passPORT). However their product literature only covers gen 4 ipods.
I agree with the thought that Apple should make it clear that the gen 5 pinouts difer and will render other stereo equipment incompatible.

The 4th Generation also does not have Firewire charging and has the same pinouts as the 5th Generation.
My new Nano won't play or charge on my Bose docking station. What a rip! You pay $300.00 for a docking station/player and your new iPod won't play on it. Had I known this I wouldn't have purchased a nano. Does anyone know if new editions of other versions of the iPod still play on these players?
I don't believe any of the current lineup of iPods can charge on an older version of the Sounddock. It is possible the latest iPod Classic will, I don't have one available to try it with. It will not work with any other iPod/iPhone in the current lineup nor any future models.
You have two options with the older Bose Sounddock, you can send it to Bose to have it upgraded for a fee (check their website) or you can buy one of these: http://www.scosche.com/products/sfID1/210/sfID2/318/productID/1695
It is $99 to have your Bose upgraded or you can trade it in for a portable model for $179.

I don't think the Scosche accessory will help. This is part of the product description:
"note: the charging adapter is specifically designed to fix the charging error associated with several iPod docking stations. If the accessory you are intending to use does not initially support the audio or video functionality of the iPod or iPhone, the charging adapter will not enable these features."
😟
Any onther ideas?

Then in your case it may not, but you can email them and they will provide an answer one way or another.
Hi...I have a 2G nano, 4G nano and now a 5G nano in this household. When we bought the 4G nano we had all the issues of old chargers and docks not working so re-invested, but I had not expected the 5G nano to differ again from the 4G!! Okay, so the position of the dock connector has moved again, but my docks can accommodate that, but I have a docking cradle that I use with the 4G system that successfully charges the nano and has a 3.5mm audio output to my hi-fi...works fine with the 4G, but whilst it will charge the 5G, there's no audio output; (the 5G sits in the cradle and just continues to play through its internal speaker).
I also have a low cost speaker dock which, whilst it won't charge the 4G it will play sound, but will do neither with the 5G.
So it would appear that there are some pinout or other circuitry differences between the 4G and 5G nanos. Can anyone shed any light? All very frustrating!

I have been in contact with apple. They have changed the pins around. I am trying to design a dock adapter, but I am waiting on the 5th gen nano pin scheme to be released or for apple to find it in their hearts to send it to me. Here is a pinout for ipods up to 4th gen nano.

I have found this info to make a line out for a Nano 5g. Not sure if it helps.
As far as I know, any LODs with the resistor will still work with older iPods.
And just to note, you would connect pin 11 to ground (15/16) and then connect that using a 68k ohm resistor to pin 21.

i have a cd player which allows me to play and charge my ipo at the same time, obviously the new ipos is smaller than the dock. so i used this while strip of plastic that came with the ipod and it worked.

This may or maynot help. I would call Apple and ask.

Never mind. It only takes care of the charging, not passing sound and turning off the internal speaeker..
