Feb 5, 2010 11:52 AM in response to canyonblueby Ashtree,I just started having this problem... I put my iMac to sleep when I go to bed, and the next day it refuses to wake, and displays a lollipop endlessly. I have a wireless mouse, and a USB keyboard, so I really don't think this is a bluetooth problem. I suspect the last security update broke something.
I just did a disk repair on the HD, so everything is fine with that. After letting it sit for a bit I get frustrated, and restart the computer.
I'm going to try canyonblue's suggestion, but I really wish Apple will look into this issue. Hopefully they have their people reading these forums. -
Feb 5, 2010 3:14 PM in response to makloklinby Fernbergjim,Sorry Makloklin, I am incorrect. I set the computer to sleep using the power button in system preferences. My post is wrong. I did not set the computer to wake on power button. That is the default and it should wake from sleep when the power button is pushed. Sometimes it works for me sometimes not. I think it is a hardware problem that I'll just live with.
cheers -
Feb 7, 2010 1:45 PM in response to Jon Israelby Peter Wallace,I have experienced this problem intermittently since buying this computer in late December 2009. Today I finally called Apple Support and was told to download and install the Display Firmware Update 1.0. I have now done so and will have to wait and see whether the problem recurs. Has anyone else tried this? With any success? -
Feb 7, 2010 7:29 PM in response to Peter Wallaceby Fernbergjim,It got too much for me.
Backed up all data and programmes
Using disk utility on Snow Leopard DVD I erased the hard drive, repaired disk and then did a fresh instal.
Recovered all my data from my backup. Rebooted and repaired permissions via disk utility.
Now it wakes from sleep when I use any key on my wired keyboard but the wireless mouse still doesn't work -
Feb 8, 2010 3:51 PM in response to makloklinby flxstr,I also have the exact same problem, but have found a way to re-start the computer, which then works perfectly normal until it 'acts up' again
1. Turn on 'screen sharing'
2. Login to your computer from another (ie: vnc://yourcomputeripaddress)
3. Move the mouse around on the screen
poof - the keyboard and mouse suddenly start working again. -
Feb 10, 2010 8:20 AM in response to flxstrby flxstr,Solved! If you suddenly find your bluetooth keyboard and magic mouse stop work, examine the following;
- are you switching user accounts (moving from one login to another)
- did you log out one of those accounts, back to the login screen?
- did you simply go back to the login screen
If so, open up 'console' and see if at that time you had an error in the click event, which means no more clicky-clicky for your mouse. This was in my case caused by a 3rd party plug-in called MagicPrefs which had a bug in its software. Upgrading to the latest version appears to have resolved this issue. -
Feb 16, 2010 4:57 AM in response to Peter Wallaceby HP12see,I'm having similar issues. Were yours resolved when you updated the software?
Thanks for your time. -

Feb 20, 2010 6:11 AM in response to HP12seeby Peter Wallace,No, the firmware update didn't solve the problem. The most recent time it occurred, it took hours before the computer would even turn on again. I'm taking the iMac to the Apple Store today and will report on the outcome. -
Feb 21, 2010 6:46 PM in response to canyonblueby rhman,I am in the same boat and canyonblue's post is exactly what I am experiencing. I can wake it up in the same manner that he outlined. It seems to me that the iMac isn't going into full sleep mode on its own. Then, after I press the power button, it goes to sleep, and after waiting 5-10 seconds I can wake it up with a mouse click.
Now I called tech support about this, and they setup an appt at my local mac store. They finally suggested replacing the logic board to fix this. I just got the iMac back yesterday and there is NO CHANGE. I am still experiencing the same "wake from sleep" problem. -
Feb 22, 2010 12:15 AM in response to flxstrby matteobrunetti,Hi,
my name is Matteo and I have the same problem: I bought the iMac in mid december and the problem happened 3 time since then; last time was yesterday.
When I click the mouse or the keyboard, the fan starts but the screen is always black, I have to press the power button for five seconds and switch off the system and then switch on again. I have also installed MagicPrefs and I have removed it yesterday evening as a test. Is is possible to have an official answer from Apple for this problem? -
Feb 22, 2010 10:24 AM in response to makloklinby jkabush,Does anyone have a solution yet? We have 12 iMac's in our lab and I have started to experience this problem one of the iMac's.
I tried to wake it up today but it wouldn't wake up even after holding the power button down. I ended up unplugging the power cord so I could bring the Mac back to life.
Since we use Deep Freeze in our lab (prevents systems changes), I'm thinking this is more of an hardware issue then software.
Also, the other 11 machines are running off the same image as the 12th machine and I'm not having any issues on those machines. -
