Q: iMac won't wake up from sleep using keyboard or mouse

Same problem here 27" iMac, 7months old, went in for a screen replacement 4 weeks ago & now getting the wont wake from sleep problem via bluetooth keyboard or trackpad.

Wakes up Ok during the day when it puts its self to sleep, but the problems occur when I manually put to sleep & leave overnight ? Just a touch on the power button wakes it ok, its not the end of the world but annoying none the less on an otherwise first class (if expensive) machine !

Wow, I thought I was the only one with this issue.  Mine refuses to wake up a couple of times a day.  I always hit the sleep button whenever I leave my computer.  When I come back to wake it up, no response from keyboard or mouse.  I also tried plugging my iphone in.  Top of iMac is warm, but screen is totally dark.  I have to hold the power button down to reset it.  This has been going on for quite some time, my iMac is 13 months old.  Im guessing this is just a software issue.  Hopefully apple comes out with a fix to this annoying problem.

I bought my 27" iMac in Feb and have been having this same problem for the duration.  I have been trying to get Apple to fix the issue, but after 2 weeks of going back and forth with their customer service folks, they finally told me the "engineers" have determined the temporary fix is to turn off the "sleep" option so the computer never goes to sleep. 

To me, this is an unacceptable solution as I would think it would just pull more juice at all times and possibly degrade the useful life of the machine.  They have assured me in writing that this is not the case, but I'm not convinced.  Anyone in the esteemed assembly have any thoughts on taking it out of sleep mode permanently? 

I'm pretty disappointed with Apple as this is my first Mac and the "solution" they have brought forward doesn't satisfy my needs; additionally, with the new iMac models out, what are the odds that Apple will continue to look for a solution?  Doesn't seem likely given this issue has been going on for over a year.

My problem seems to have been resolved by taking the advice on this thread of switching of 'Wake for Network Access' from System Preferences / Energy Saver. The wake up issue used to happen at least once a week, but since making this change it has not done it yet (going on to 4 weeks now). I recommend giving it a try.

I can second this, I switched it back on as the functionality is useful, and have been plagued by problems again. Its now switched off again.

Nearly a month now since I posted on this forum and switched off network wake. So far no repeat of the problem. Sleep is still enabled on the machine and I am happy enough, but apple do need to fix this problem which, based on the further posts here, is clearly OS related.

Well, it seems that this 'rare' problem may have been finally addressed. A friend just sent me this link, but I am yet to try it. I will give it a go tonight.

I just tried to download this and install it, the download was fast, but it tells me that it isnt supported on my system. I am running OS X 10.6.7 which the update needs to install :S any ideas?

Same here, not applicable for iMac11,3 which does suffer this problem

Sometimes ( once a week ) the iMac is freezing (or not activating the monitor) after a sleep.

Tried to use the patch from http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1389.

"The software is not supported from your system"..... *weierd*

I have the late 2009 21.5inch iMac and its giving me the same error message thing :/

Just got home and saw the posts re the patch..guess I wont be trying it tonight then. Just noticed that the patch was only released yesterday...possibly prematurely ? Surely a fix for the fix will come soon !

yeah, I think you're probably right about the premature release :/ But still, it shouldn't be a fix for the fix, it should just be one fix that works

Yeah, same problem here all the same symptoms.

Have to hard-reboot everytime, pain in the ***.

imac 27inch i5 2010 model.

Also tried the dl1389 patch, ofcourse i got the not supported message - crap, even though I have all the latest and greatest updates.
