iPHONE NOT READING SIM PLEASE HELP..

i owed iTunes £14 and have just payed it but still when i turn my iphone on it says "restore needed. iphone cannot make or recieve calls. restore from itunes." so i plug it into itunes and a messege comes up saying "itunes cannot activate your iphone because the sim card is not inserted or a sim pin is required. dissconnect your iphone, make sure the sim is inserted correctly and, if you use a sim pin, tap unlock to enter it, and then re-connect your iphone."
i do not use a sim pin so that rules that out. the iphone is not doing anything apart from givint that messege with i picture of a connector cable pointing towards the itunes logo. i have took my sim card out and cleaned it but that hasnt worked. somebody please help me !!

A fair few people had this problem after upgrading to 3.1, myself included.
The only option is to take it to a "Genius" who will replace the handset for you.
They will give you a phone on 3.0.1 which means you won't be able to restore your old files until you upgrade it to 3.0.1 again.
Catch-22.
Fortunately I've not had an issue with my new handset since I changed it a month ago.

I had the same issue when Apple gave me a refurbished unit. Even my wifes sim would not work in my iPhone. I would have to reboot it all the time to get a signal, then the bars would slowly go down to zero. It would occasionally state that I didnt have a sim inserted. Eventually I removed the sim and blew a little inside the sim hole. So far, been a few days and all is well. I suspect the previous owner of my refurbished unit had the same issue hence he or she returning it!

You'll need to put the iPhone into recovery mode and restore it.

Simple way is to Power off the Iphone(Hold down home button and slide to power off) and then hold down the home button and plug it in and keep holding it down till iTunes says its detected an iPhone in recovery mode.

Then I would try restoring it and see what happens, if it restores it was a software glitch, otherwise if it fails and depending on the error it would be hardware.

I bought the I phone on the 5th From Telus, I can not recieve calls. When I call it it says "the number you have called can not be completed as dialed", When I turn my I phone off than on I get a message saying "SIM has sent a text message" three times and then "ME has registered a temporary error". Does anybody know anything about this?

P.S.
I am going into Edmonton tomorrow and I am going to stop at the APPLE shop in West Ed mall and see what they say or can do.

To have an en-debted Itunes account is quite difficult. I think only possible with Click&Buy as all other card types need cleared funds including pre-payment VIsa/MC cards.

And call or email Apple Itunes customer service the make sure your account has been reactivated

Call O2 or Orange which ever is your operator in the U.K because having NO iMEI number is ominous.

The networks will block service to a phone without the IMEI number as they consider it may have been tampered/stolen.
