microphone recording sounds like in a cave

When I use the microphone on Windows XP the sound comes out like I'm recording inside a well. The microphone works fine on OSX. I heard that Macbook has similar problem, but I didn't see anything about iMac. Anyone else have this problem?

iMac 21.5, Mac OS X (10.6.1)

This is a driver issue. There is no current fix unfortunately. At least not until Cirrus Logic or apple release new 3.1 or higher bootcamp drivers.

I once jhad a problem like that on my iMac. I put something on top of my computer inadvertently. It was on top of the Mic hole. Maybe you put something on it?

no, there's nothing wrong with the microphone itself. I even plugin an external microphone and I get the same problem. It seems to be recording at half speed.

Finally got it working, quite by accident. I installed linux in VirtualBox and it started working. It only works when Linux is actually booted up though.
