iMac Sort Order

Hi,

I am trying to get some file names to sort to the end of the file list as shown in the Finder. I looked up the ASCII codes and found that a tilde (~) at the beginning of the file name should sort to the end of the list. But when I added a tilde to the beginning of the file name, it sorted to the beginning of the list.

It seems that Apple is not using the standard ASCII sort sequence,. Does anyone know a link to the sort sequence that Apple is using?

The Finder doesn't use ASCII values to sort (well, it hasn't used ASCII for quite a while either, but that is another discussion) - there is an older support document about how the Finder lists items at http://support.apple.com/kb/TA22935.

I took a look at your link, then followed the link given there to the Unicode standards document. Wow! That's a pretty complicated process just to sort a few files in the Finder.

Which brings us back to the question -- is there an easy way to sort files to the end of a file list without having to reverse the sort order?
