Itunes not opening when ipod connected on Windows 7

I recently upgraded to Windows 7, 64bit. I uninstalled and reinstalled itunes. I have the setting in itunes set to open when ipod is connected but this doesn't happen. itunes opens when a cd is mounted. I'm not sure how to correct this. I'm thinking it may have something to do with Windows 7 showing my ipod as a storage device not an ipod. I have been unable to discover how to make windows see the ipod as an ipod in autoplay. Any Help
