Startup problems

My computer recently stopped working. Most likely overheated. I plug it in to charge and it doesnt. The charger switches from green to orange often and or just doesnt work. But when its green i tried turning it on and like 3 seconds later, it makes a loud whoosing sound, most likely the fan. And the screen doesnt turn on. Is it possible to troubleshoot, or do i need to buy something. Please contact back to my new email <Edited by Host> my computer model is below
Thanks much appreciated

Hi, shirpa69 -

An A1106 model translates to a PowerBook G4 1.67GHz 15" monitor.

This forum is set up for users of Power Mac G4 (pre MDD) machines, which are desktop models, not portables.

Suggest you repost your question in the appropriate PowerBook forum, which you can access here -

Doing so will put your query in front of more folk familiar with that model.

If you have your original OS X disks, or the program TechTool Deluxe or TechTool Pro, you can test the hardware to see if there are any obvious hardware issues. Insert the original OS X disk that says 'AHT Version x.x' in small print on the label, and reboot holding the alt key down. Assuming that works, choose the Apple hardware test, and when prompted choose the extended test. Does that tell you anything?

When you say the screen doesn't turn on, if you shine a flashlight at the screen, can you see writing or graphics on it?
