Any help connecting Pixma MP560 wirelessly please?

Just got a Pixma MP560 and all set up but can't get wireless set up. I tried to do a simplified WPS set-up but can't figure out what to press to set access point on router. Have Verizon FiOS and then my Airport Extreme connected to that. So then tried manually setting up and did the wireless assistant and found 3 different networks w/3 passwords...selected network that I thought was on this computer and put in password which is 7 letters and 1 number and keeps saying must be 13 letters. None of my wep passwords are 13 digits...they are passwords I made up or came from Verizon. Verizon gave me the SSID of H8A and wep password of de1*9A14 (asterisks are just placeholders so it is not my actual codes). I just can't get this toconnect. Is there anywhere on my computer that will tell me exactly which one this computer is connected with? I have 2 computers. Looked under hardware/software configurations and all 3 networks show there also. Any help appreciated. Setting up on brand new 15" MacBook Pro 2.8 ghz. Any other info I can provide I will but I am no computer whiz so make directions simple please. THANK YOU!!!

Is there something else that I'm missing?

Nope. With the driver installed the printer should appear in the Default browser view. When it doesn't, it can indicate something is blocking it. Parallels is known to stop you seeing the networked Canon printer. Do you have Parallels on your Mac?

The firewall can also block the networked printer. Do you have the firewall enabled? (System Preferences > Security > Firewall).

Just by having Parallels installed on the Mac, it has been known to stop the printer from being seen. Some have posted methods to stop some of the Parallels background services which appear to be the cause. But then in order to use Parallels you need to start them again.

I did read somewhere on this forum that the new Parallels 5 resolved this issue for one user. Might be worth trying if it is a free/cheap update.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction Pahu. I will have to wait before I upgrade, but I found a temporary solution from a previous topic. All I did was type "sudo launchctl stop com.parallels.desktop.launchdaemon" in terminal and my printer showed up.

Found it here:

It was the post by oleolo that worked for me.

Thanks again Pahu! I can now get back to working on my paper that's due tomorrow.

Pahu, I am going to buy this printer now, but have a final question. When in the "Default" window, both the scanner and the printer show up, will I be adding both these, to get both working wirelessly? Will I be able to do this with more than one computer?

Lastly, I am having a lot of trouble finding a link to download the appropriate driver. A link would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Yes to both questions. The printer will appear twice in the Default view and you need to select each to add the respective printer and scanner driver. And you will need to do this on each computer that you want to print and/or scan from.

Just back to the printer view, when the printer is connected via USB you only see one device in the Default view and when you add this queue there will be two parts via the single queue - a printer and a scanner.
Lastly, I am having a lot of trouble finding a link to download the appropriate driver. A link would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Try this link via the Canon Australia web site.

I just purchased the MP560 -- I've followed all the steps in here, got the printer to show up and added. But when I go to print something, the printout never happens. The queue sits there for a little while and then says problem communicating. Not sure what the issue is -- even if I goto Supply Levels it says Information Not Available -- any ideas?

I just downloaded all the updated drivers as well and it still doesn't show up during the installation as a printer being detected on the network. I still have it though in my Print & Fax pref pane. I just tried again to print something and it went to the Queue, sat there, then Paused, I clicked on Resume, and then 'A communication error has occurred.' -- I'm so at a loss right now. Any ideas would be great - thank you very much!

OK, I ordered mine (don't have it yet), and I decided to call Canon, to prepare. I got this great guy names Tony C. He gave me 2 options, both that work on SL.

1. The first is to get the Universal Installer (mp560sosxns10ea7-3.dmg) for SL only.

2. The second is to get the Leopard/SL Installers. There are 3, and they must be installed in a certain order. Here is the files and order:
a. mp560sosxcp102620ea8-2.dmg
b. mp560sosxsd1541ea8-2.dmg
c. mp560sntosx270ea8-2.dmg

He said to start over, drag the old files out of Library/Printers.
DL from here - http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=SupportDeta ilTabAct&fcategoryid=238&modelid=18954
Site is horrible. Lots of back and forth, and re-clicking.

I hope this helps.

Any help connecting Pixma MP560 wirelessly please?
