iPod Will Not Turn On

A question that I have seen asked many times, but answered helpfully... None.

I have had my iPod for quite some time now. I never really had any problems with it until I updated it to the 3.1 version, but that's another story entirely. Recently it has been having trouble getting to the music. I would tap the icon, and it would open for a second and then close right away. I left it sitting for a while. I didn't know what to do with it, and it wasn't playing music so I didn't really need it for anything. I didn't have the time to worry about it either. But long story short, the battery completely died because I hadn't charged it, and now it won't turn back on.

I plugged it into the computer this morning, and I got a dead battery icon. It was the battery shell almost completely empty with a small sliver of red on one end and a lightning bolt under it. But then that went away, and it shut itself off.

Now, It is plugged into the USB port on my tower and nothing at all happens. I can hold down the sleep/wake button, and it will turn on momentarily to show me the Apple Icon, but after 15 seconds it shuts itself back off. Blank screen...

Now, I know some power has to be going into it, because the device is warm. But because it won't turn on, it isn't actually charging in the same way that it usually does.

Can someone give me some advice or a tip or two? I would greatly appreciate it.

EDIT

I figured out how to reset it, and I'm trying that. It is at least doing something now.

If its an ipod touch. My brother was having issues with his too. And all i did was hold down the top button and the Home button on the bottom for about ten seconds. Your ipod will go black with the apple logo. It'll take a little bit to start up. But it should be good.

We did that after my brothers ipod touch went through the wash! And it started right back up!
