How to sync old contacts to New iPhone?

My dad had an old iPhone up until the Summer when he decided to sell it. He has just bought a new one and has set it up as a "New iPhone" instead of using a backup from his older 1st Gen iPhone.

We cannot figure out how to get his old contacts back that were backed up in iTunes. There is no "Contacts" Tab when Syncing to iPhone. There is a contacts box that I could tick in the "Info" Tab but this didn't sync any of his old contacts.

help?

Which supported address book application on your computer were you syncing contacts with?

Although contacts are included with your iPhone's backup, the iPhone is designed to sync contacts with a supported application on your computer.

Text messages are also included with your iPhone's backup.

When connecting a new iPhone to the same computer, you should be prompted to transfer the backup for a previous iPhone to the new iPhone, which can be accepted or declined.

Were you provided such a prompt? If not, you can restore your new iPhone with iTunes from the backup of your previous iPhone.
