My dad had an old iPhone up until the Summer when he decided to sell it. He has just bought a new one and has set it up as a "New iPhone" instead of using a backup from his older 1st Gen iPhone.

We cannot figure out how to get his old contacts back that were backed up in iTunes. There is no "Contacts" Tab when Syncing to iPhone. There is a contacts box that I could tick in the "Info" Tab but this didn't sync any of his old contacts.

What application were you syncing the contacts to before? Have you looked, are they on the computer?

Contacts were always backed up in iTunes every time my dad synced his iPhone.

The contacts were originally input by hand to his iPhone. Looks like he's going to have to retype all his contacts manually onto his iPhone again. He said he's also lost his old photos that he took with his old iPhone.

I understand about backups, your contacts are synced with a compatible application, such as Outlook, Address Book, etc. What contact program is on the computer?

I'm actually having the same problem. I just recently had to replace my stolen iphone and get a new number.. i always sync all my info to itunes and back up my info..i was able to receive most of my info from the old number but none of my contacts text messages or calendar. Has any one been able to help you with this issue because as it seems i need help as well..

Which supported address book application on your computer were you syncing contacts with?

Although contacts are included with your iPhone's backup, the iPhone is designed to sync contacts with a supported application on your computer.

Text messages are also included with your iPhone's backup.

When connecting a new iPhone to the same computer, you should be prompted to transfer the backup for a previous iPhone to the new iPhone, which can be accepted or declined.

Were you provided such a prompt? If not, you can restore your new iPhone with iTunes from the backup of your previous iPhone.
