iPhone cradle for Mercedes Benz

I have bought the original Mercedes-Benz iPhone 3G cradle. I have followed the instructions to pair the iPhone with the Cradle (without the phone being in the cradle and entering the 62872 code).

It all works well - but only if the iPhone is IN the cradle - I can't get it to connect if the iPhone is in my pocket? Bluetooth is being used do I don't really understand why it would only work in the cradle?

Any ideas?

What "cradle" are you talking about, must be thousands on the market?

What version of OS is on your phone, 3.1.2?

I see addresses for both Wifi and bluetooth and when the iPhone is in the cradle it works. I can also pair the iPhone with the cradle but just not able to connect when it is not in cradle.

Will it pair when not in the cradle? What I mean is, have you tried pairing the phone to the cradle, but not placing the phone in the cradle? Once paired this way, then place the phone in the cradle, see if it's still paired, then remove and see if it remains paired. If it doesn't, could be the phone is treating the crade as two separate devices. If it's doing that, by design, it will only pair with one at a time.

Yes I can pair it without the iPhone being in the cradle - but it will not remain connected. It connects as soon as I place the iPhone in the Cradle - but it will not remain connected if I remove it.

Odd right?

Check with the mfg., they may have info on this. Looks like to me, the iphone is treating the cradle as "two" separate devices. If that's the case, it will act as you describe.

The phone must remain in the cradle to work, even though both the phone and the cradle have Bluetooth go to - http://www.mercupgrades.com/MercedesiPhone+and+iPod+solutions-article-52.html - for confirmation of this.
