VNC vs ARD

VNC vs ARD

While I have been able to configure a remote Mac running 10.4 behind a DSL router in another city to be controlled via VNC, I seem to lack some features that ARD would provide.

I'm not sure what I'm missing to add full ARD functionality. Any suggestions?

Make sure you've opened (and if necessary forwarded) both ports 5900 (TCP) and 3283 (TCP and UDP).

Thanks, Dave. I double checked my router settings and it appears that I have opened and forwarded the ports you noted in your posting. Maybe it's just my error in reading the ARD windows. I am assuming that if VNC appears on the scanner line with the computer I wish to control, that I have VNC access only. Not so?

That would normally be the case, yes. You say you've checked your router, but does that mean you've checked the settings on the router on both ends?

Incredible. "Both Ends"...... right! Thank you for your insight, Dave. I merely configured the router on my end and bingo - I was there. I'm just a small businessman struggling to keep my shop afloat and i sure owe you one. Thanks for your help, Dave!
