Epson Stylus C84 'pauses' and won't print - OSX 10.6.1

Hello,

I'm having problems printing with my Epson C84. I've upgraded to OSX 10.6.1 / Mac Pro. The printer was fine on my previous OSX 10 on the same Mac Pro.

After downloading from Epson the new driver (Gutenprint v5.2.3) for 10.6 and adding the printer in the system preferences, when I print I've had 2 issues:

1. The paper was fed through the printer with nothing printed

2. after trashing the 'Epson' folder from the HD/Library/Printers, and re installing it, I now get a 'pause' in the job list when I print - and an error '/usr/libexec/cups/backend/usb failed' when I resume.

I can't access the Printer options either. The supply levels aren't available.

Thanks.

HI Ash,

Try reinstalling the *drivers that came with your C84*. (that's a work horse of a printer I used to have one).

Repair disk permissions.

Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and *restart your Mac.*

Try deleting the Epson .plist file too.

~/Library/Preferences

Look for a file similar to this. com.Epson(model number).plist

Move that file to the Trash and see if that makes a difference.

Hiya,

Having installed 10.6.2 and the new Epson driver from apple - I can now print!

But... when I print a word .doc from the past 4 years (pre upgrade), the text will not print.

If I print a sticky note from pre upgrade - it prints.

If create a new word .doc with text, it prints.

If I print a word .doc that's been emailed to me - it doesn't print any of the text, it does print the foot notes and only feeds out 1 sheet of paper, not the 6 that it should.

If I cut and paste the pre upgrade .doc into a new .doc, it still does not print the text.

That's a known Word problem, pick one of the methods below to try:
1. Use "Font Book.app" (in /Applications) to verify the fonts and remove the invalid ones, also remove all older copies of duplicated fonts.
2. Uninstall your current office application (this uninstall step is necessary), then install a newest version (Office 2008).
3. Download a trail version Office 2008, install it, then uninstall it, then install back your old licensed Office copy.

After getting new imac 21.5" w/ SL was unable to print certain word docs. The printer would put out a single blank page. Tried using Pages but the formatting and font changed. Also tried validating fonts, uninstalling office X and reinstalling it, even downloaded office 2008. None of these actions fixed the problem. *What did the job was downloading and installing OpenOffice.org version 3.1.1.* It works like a charm. Font and format are correct and it prints. Plus it's free.
