What is appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net? Is it from apple?

When we went to do the apps on out computer to download iTunes, the download wanted to run iTunesSetup.exe and the file was coming from appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net

I also see the same download with quicktime

when I google this and when I talk to some people, they say not to download this as edgsuite.net is a virus? That seems weird that apple.com would direct to a virus.

So is appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net a safe download?
