After 10.6.2 a new file on desktop called "client node"

There is also a new folder in my home directory called ActiveGSLocalData. In it is an empty folder called _DOWNLOADCACHE and another file called activegs.conf that contains the following:

configVersion:2
guid:08E755BD4AA40FBC
latestRunBuild:undefined
doNotSconvertStrhowUpdateAlert:0
usePersistentDir:1
haltOnBadRead:0
haltOnBadAcc:0
haltOnHalts:0

I'm thinking there is some debug information active here.

This only happened on my newer 24" iMac (3.06), not my older 15" MBP.

I've seen "client node" show up if one of your drives gets a hidden flag. does any of the drives seem to be missing from the desktop?
in any case, run the following terminal command

sudo chflags 0 /volumes/*

you'll have to enter your admin password (which you won't see). that's normal.

the cache folder looks like some temp stuff that should be trashed.

I found this link above while searching for a solution. I am trying it right now:
"If you have a Windows partition on the same drive, sometimes stray files
get placed on the Mac side.

Try emptying the recycle bin, but first run the Check Disk Utility for
Windows hard drives. (Open My Computer, right click on the 'C' drive,
and click properties. Click on the tools tab, then Check Now. Make sure
that there is a check in the box that says "Automatically fix file
system errors." Then you will be prompted to reboot. Check Disk will run
on reboot.)"

I believe this problem is related either to BootCamp, Parallels, or TechTool Pro's emergency disk. But as I am running this disk check within windows, it is deleting a to of files:
"Deleting an index entry with ID 2353 from index $SDH of file 9..." etc.

We'll see if that fixes it.

I ran this procedure and client node has disappeared.

I'll see over the next few days if the client node reappears.
It did not correct the problem with Parallels forgetting the location of a valid OS on BootCamp.
If client node reappears, I would suspect Parallels to be the culprit.

Is everyone using Parallels?

Updated to correct false fix for Parallels.
