VERIZON DSL & AEX?

Please help. I have no trouble using my wired connection but have been unable to configure my AEX to connect. I have had the flashing amber for some time. After numerous tweaks, I was able to get the base and my iMac / iBook to talk, but then I was unable to find the PPPoE host. I tried to use the same basic internet settings as my DSL, but after hours of tweaks, I am unfortunately back to flashing amber.

Someone must have some insight to connecting with Verizon.

1. Use the Airport Admin Utility to configure the settings under the Internet tab - select to "connect using PPP over ethernet" and enter your Verizon account user name and password. Also, check the box to "always stay connected".

2. On the Mac, in System Preferences->Network->Show ethernet built in->PPPoE tab, uncheck the box to "connect using PPPoE". Do the same for the settings under "Show Airport".

3. reset your connection by pulling the DSL modem and Airport Express from power for at least five minutes.

Hi,

I tried using your advice, however, I am unable to get past the first step. Under Airport Admin Utility, I first of all do not see any "internet" tab. Also I do not see any base stations listed. I just reset my airport express because I just recently switched from concast to dsl. Maybe this was a mistake?

any help would be great! Thanks

Dana

Dana - in your case, I suggest you try running the Airport Setup Assistant. It automates the process of setting up an Airport Express from scratch very nicely - particularly if you don't have any idea what you are doing.

On the other hand, if you want to do a manual configuration of your Airport Express, then use the Airport Admin Utility. HOWEVER - to run that utility, your Mac must already have a functional network connection to the Airport Express already established. On an Airport card equipped Mac, that means you must first click on the MacOS Airport menu item, then click on the name of your Airport Express wireless network (which after a reset is called "Apple Network xxxxxx") to connect to it. Then, and only then, can you run the Airport Admin Utility - which will now detect an Airport Express you can select to configure.

One other note - your message indicates you are running MacOS 10.2.x. Perhaps this is incorrectly listed. Nevertheless, you need a Mac running at least MacOS 10.3 to configure an Airport Express.

If you do not use PPPoE to connect - my Verizon account does not - you may need to switch to "DHCP" and a little patience.

I found that Verizon is slow to recognise new equipment on the DSL line, but if you are patient and unplug your modem and Airport Express for a few minutes at a time, eventually Verizon will recognise your Express and you get the green light.

This has happened to me with 2 Macs, a PC laptop and the AirPort Express, so it is either the modem or Verizon.
