A simple and dumb question: how can I find out how big my iBook G4 hard drive is? I looked in Apple menu > System Profiler but cannot find any mention of the hard drive.

G5 iMac OS 10.4.11; MacBook OS 10.6.1, Mac OS X (10.6.1)

There are several ways to check this. Try this one:
Select your HDD icon on the desktop
Type Command + I. This will open a Get Info window
Click the disclosure arrow next to General
Total capacity is the formatted capacity of your HDD. It also gives you how much you have used and what is available.

Cornelius, you are great! Should have thought of this myself, but I didn't. Thank you for teaching me this.

    Much appreciated,

You are very welcome. The directory takes up some space, so the stated capacity of the HDD is always a bit larger.
