10.6.2 eyeTV and Apple remote

Yep, had the same problem. I found another thread here which sent me onto this link:

where you can download basically a replacement driver that allows you to operate the apple IR interface in "Leopard compatibility mode" which makes it all work again like the good old days in 10.5._

With the release of 10.6.2, the company Elgato needs to update their EyeTV software, so it can once again use the Apple Remote. Hulu desktop just did this exact same thing (in fact, they had their update ready the very next day after 10.6.2 was released), and Hulu works fine with the remote now.
Apparently Apple has fixed the problems that Snow Leopard introduced with the Apple Remote (it would control the Finder AND 3rd-party applications at the same time). But, now it's up to the 3rd-party software developers to update their own software to use the Apple Remote (otherwise it won't work at all in their software). I suggest we all contact Elgato and remind them of this; that they need to update EyeTV now, for Apple Remote compatibility. (Their latest EyeTV 3.2.1 update doesn't fix this unfortunately).

I've been having exactly the same problem too.
After reading your post I took a bit of time to type out an email, hopefully getting the update rolling a bit quicker 🙂

Just wondering as well, did you have an issue where pressing the play/pause button on the remote would activate itunes in the background whilst watching TV? Also, the OS volume would change as well as the independent EyeTV software volume. I find it incredibly annoying and can only hope that in the next update this is sorted out.

As suggested by burger01, You have to download the candelair driver (free) from the site http://www.iospirit.com/labs/candelair/
After downloading, you activate the "Leopard compatibility mode" in the preferences.
This operation has resolved every problem for using the remote with EyeTV (2.5) on my iMac (MacOs 10.6.2).

This also happens on the new iMacs 21" and 27" in fact you cannot even launch Front Row if Eyetv is running. This issue has been posted on Elgato's website. What's more worrying is that Apple do not mention and do not even have a page on their website about Frontrow in Snow Leopard like is an illegitimate child of no consequence when it is the core existence on mac media centers worldwide along with EyeTv.

It's such a silly, inconvenient problem, you'd think they'd sort out.
Rather than waiting i did try Candelair as mentioned above, and it worked out perfectly and now my EyeTv works just as before without any interruptions from Front Row, iTunes or any other Snow Leopard software. 🙂

Hi, I am new to this discussion. I have ordered an apple remote to use when i am using hulu or netflix and my macbook to watch shows on my tv. Is this possible? How do you do it?

I wish candelair worked for me like that... I installed it and, yipee my macbook remote now works... sort of... it switches itunes app on and off but nothing else? Even when I have quit itunes and am trying to watch elgato eye tv! What now? Anyone have an answer?

I just downloaded the latest version of EyeTV and now my new Apple Remote is working. Finally!
