External Display Desktop 10.6.2

I have an external display connected to my imac. I updated the OS to 10.6.2 and since then everytime I wake from sleep all my open windows shift back to my imac and the external display just shows the wallpaper until I drag the programmes back across.
For example I use my external display for mail, ical, address book and itunes and when I now wake from sleep these are on my imac screen.
